FFS folk need to get a grip on here

You would think JR was sir Alex

just to add, my preferred choice was Ross, but some ott stuff on here, let’s hear what he has to say, who he brings in, and how we hit the ground running when the season starts

Folk again very matter of fact about who will succeed and who won't

Never seen a fanbase take the huff like we do if we don't get our preferred man. I say that even if it isn't Maloney getting the job.

Let's just see how the new manager fits into our new structure. Any appointment when we are likely overhauling our footballing structure  will be a gamble imo

Probably because the last 4 guys in the role have been obvious to everyone as either a cheap or bizarre/moronic appointment. Ross isn't viewed as something special, he's viewed as the obvious and logical choice so to see the board once again deviate from that creates hysteria regardless of the reasoning.

As the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water.... If the club have made the best offer they can and JR turned them down, what else can they do? Don't get me wrong, this expected appointment doesn't fill me with any optimism either but I suppose Maloney is the best of the rest that were being touted. We've seen better and worse and we still follow our club.

And the fact that they've previously taken these types of gambles and it's been far off.

Nothing against Maloney. He might be a great manager for us and the perfect character we need but I simply don't trust the board to judge that risk and his qualifications aren't near impressive as made out to be.

When you look at people working in international setups and role they do, it's quite often a stepping stone for young guys to get themselves into decent full time set-ups rather than a place for well established talent to be parachuted in from a high level. That's great but it's a different universe.

If I was a St Johnstone fan, I'd probably be taking positives from it as they've went left field for last couple of decades and pretty rarely got it wrong.

To win me on side, it would be really good if we could see some actual substance in talk of sporting director/dof and bring in someone reputable who can help us move towards professional setup that you see at other comparable clubs our size.

McPake didn't have it for me as a manager and was incredibly fortunate IMO but at the same time, I do think there were huge issues he had to contend with that really hurt what he was trying to do. Similarly, McCann in his last window lost all hope of playing a plan B with what he had left but for the development project he was trying to achieve, it seemed pretty amateurish in how we recruited.

Some of the posts I've read tonight are unbelievable. Maloney hasn't even been confirmed as manager yet and there is fans saying there not buying season tickets next season. If Jack Ross doesn't want to move up From Newcastle and doesn't want to accept being the highest paid manager under our owners then our owners are right not to hire him as manager. If Maloney does get the job I hope he shuts a few people up next season.

The location should be talked about early doors, not being a last minute deal breaker

It should have been a pre-requisite. Absolutely so. I see Maloney as another McPake/McCann insofar as we are taking a chance on a very inexperienced club manager. It is deja vu.  We can debate all we like about those supporters who are ‘ridiculous’ for not renewing tickets due to his appointment. But this appointment needs to be seen in context. Another rookie after two appalling failures involving rookies. Both of which could have been great choices but both  turned out to be awful. With  regards to the Belgium job, I would say that Martinez was the very astute leading figure, and the play out from the back stuff  that cost us so dearly under McCann is much more likely to be successful when implemented by Belgian full internationalists. The dismay is much more associated with the dreadful previous choice failures, but is aggravated by the board seemingly willing to risk all again on an unproven individual, or arguably a tested ‘failure’. We cannot disregard our previous experience.

About 6 weeks ago .. Sunderland fans were going nuts about their clubs decision to appoint Alex Neil as their manager.. their forum was on the verge of exploding.

Fast forward to last weekend.. now they love him and want him on a 6 year contract etc..

Point Im trying to make to dissenters of a possible Maloney appointment is you never know what’s around the corner.

Jack Ross could have been a massive flop ..of the best decision ever made .. nobody will ever know ??

Same with Sean .. who knows what we will get .. but writing him off now is just plain idiocy

Absolutely agree regarding Ross. He could fail badly. Bit different with Maloney though In that he is, frankly, a rookie, following two failed rookies. The lack of faith is in the appointers more than the appointee, I think. And the willingness to take the chance on a rookie again after two dreadful failures. The dissent, certainly on my part is with Nelms again rather than Maloney.
