Don't think the numbers on the back of shirts mean anything these days.

Wasn't number 12 the sub goal keeper number back in the day?

obviously I am a time lord!.. back in MY day.. teams had only one sub.. number twelve.. no sub keeper.. just a guy on the bench.. number twelve.. and that was that.. the fun was.. if keeper got crocked.. an outfield player donned the gloves.. happy days..

Was just about to post similar. I remember Brian Scrimgeour went in the goal at the Dump after Bobby Geddes went off injured and there was no sub keeper as we were only allowed 2 subs back then. We lost the game 5-3 after being 3-2 up going into the last 10 minutes.

If I remember correctly BS went in the goal because we had already made  our 2 subs. That game doesn't seem so long ago as for there not to have been a sub keeper on the bench. Also think it was earlier than last 10 we lost the lead.  Time flies, so could be wrong about all that though!

Peter Mackie came on for Geddes, it was actually less than 10 minutes to go mate.

Fuck sake, shows how time can alter your memory....would never have thought we were leading as late in the game as that!  Weren't we 2-0 down and had made a miraculous comeback as well??

BTW, apologies, don't tend to google stuff, rely on my (usually  ) ok recall for that type of thing.

Sub keepers on the bench couldn't have been far off tho.

You could have a sub keeper on the bench at that time if you wanted but with only 2 subs allowed managers tended to go with outfield players.

Hi yeah, explained it poorly......what I should have said was we couldn't have been far away at that point from the innovation of the 3rd sub, which was primarily to allow clubs to list a keeper as one of their subs.
