if we move into the season missing 3/4 good chances a game I think we will struggle to impose ourselves as the front runners in the league this year. 

I have been impressed with the changes in our style of play since Bowyer has come in however goals win games and although we have scored a fair few this preseason, I feel the better teams will punish us if we don't get ourselves ahead when on top in games. 

The last time I remember the club holding the no.9 shirt and we were desperate for a striker we ended up with Mendy. Let's hope we improve on that signing.

We've been saying strikers for a few years now and those in charge have done hee haw 

It's a worry with Patrick next sat

Bit of a bugbear of mine that. Does anyone really think that a bunch of fans on a messageboard are more clued up than actual professionals who do this type of thing for a living?. Of course they are aware of what's needed but as we all know these things take time and we'll maybe try for a dozen players (trial, enquiry, offer etc) before we're successful. If we had a pot of cash we'd sign a striker tomorrow imo.

I think this is a bit harsh. The board brought in both Cummings and Griffiths over last 2 seasons which wouldn’t have been cheap and on paper, everyone was delighted with.

8 goals on 3 games, games where the team was changed way more than necessary to understandably give guys game time. I don’t share the same fear as the OP

I think it’s frustrating that we have not got business done earlier, this is easiest the championship has been in years yet we are going in with the same squad as last season. No preparation or lessons learned. We have yet to play any decent teams, Blackburn under 23s was the toughest test yet.

Completely disagree. 

There’s loads of examples of managers being blinded by whatever, so unable to see the issues. 

Jack Hamilton as a goalie, really good in training apparently, but who cares about that, oh McCann and McPake. 

Jordan Foster as a CB in a two, playing a high line, absolute utter stupidity, but we kept trying it. 

Paul McGowan on the wing, beyond stupidity. 

Moussa as a player in general. 

Hartley signing 524 midfielders who are all 5 foot 5, built like a teenage girl and slower than my gran. 

McCann putting ‘style’ above results, he was sacked as a result. 

Managers and coaches are humans, and suffer the same issues that we all do, they are generally better than the average punter, but by no means do they get even close to getting every call right.

I agree I would have liked to have seen more business done but woudl rather we took our time and got the right players than just brought people in for the sake of it. We also have a large squad from last year plus the youths as soo many were stil under contract. 

 

To say we haven't played any decent teams is harsh as we have played 2 teams from the Championship and on another day could have beat both 5/6-0

Personally I think it's we the fans who have lessons to learn, we're not Real Madrid, we can't just make an offer to a player and expect that they sign on the dotted line. Competition for players at our level is pretty fierce and whilst our wages might be more attractive than say a Partick or an Ayr Utd there's other considerations like location, bonuses, guaranteed game time, maybe a captaincy, family needs, etc, etc, etc.

We know where the team is short, the manager and coaches know where the team is short but there are so many considerations on both the player's and on the club's side to take into account before any deal can be struck. Adeloye for example was set to sign to fill the vacancy up front but received a better offer from down south at what seemed like the 11th hour, there's absolutely nothing we can do about that so, as GB says, it's back to the drawing board.
