To paraphrase a saying.. optimism comes before a fall.

I don't get to Dens as I live many miles away so I rely (as many do) on match reports and the views of punters on this site and many others... Bowyer, on the face of it seems like a decent appointment.. let's face it anyone who isn't a mate of a mate, a pundit, a rookie or, a dab is a step up in quality. Time will tell.

Our League cup group games seemed like a positive.. Banging in goals and unbeaten. I see many people are saying (after the fact and after todays game) the clubs we faced weren't up to much. Well, you can only play the teams you are faced with and, unlike a few Premiership sides, we breezed through that phase of the cup. I previous years things have not been so easy.

So, IMHO, it wasn't unreasonable for people to have a bit of optimism going into the league campaign. I think we all know that we need at least one striker and some creativity in midfield.

I think today was  shock to us all.. maybe not getting beat so much as getting three goals banging in at home. Hopefully that's a wake up call, not just to the fans but the players and most importantly of all, the manager.

One can only hope that's going to give him the necessary impetus to go out and get some reinforcements in.

this is the Dundee way.. build us up and fuck us over. .. let's hope this is wake up call to those in charge.

I was listening to radio Scotland today and an interview with the Motherwell CEO or Chairman.. I forget his title.. he said the board don't meet on match days or after games, because they are all fans and may let emotions straight after a bad performance impact on their decisions.. I thought I'd do the same today and wait a few hours before hitting the keyboard. Otherwise I may say something that I regret.

Yes very disappointing. I thought the extra fitness we have built up, organisation etc would have made some sort of difference. But no.

What's the point of the Williamson loan if he doesn't turn up? Also why did Byrne and Anderson play so poorly on our first league game? Criminal.

Just don't understand.

Of course in hindsight McCowan should have played in a midfield four and Rudden up front instead of Jakubiak.

You're not exactly the best person to comment on where the managers team selection went wrong considering you had 3 goalkeepers, 6 defenders and 3 long term injured in your starting 11 in the pre-match polls. You also had both RUDDEN & JAKUBIAK starting!.😂

The panic has set in for some fans very early.

I was as disappointed as any fan yesterday, but some ott posts (not on this thread) in my opinion.

Thistle were decent yesterday, nothing more, definitely nothing to get into a frenzied state of doom and gloom.

Get a proper striker in, get a guy that create in midfield, and a defensive midfielder who doesn’t look like he’s running through porridge….a goalie also unless Ledzins in near a comeback..

Really disappointing yesterday, but we have to keep going, and back the manager who hopefully now fully sees the deficiencies in this squad of players.

That's the worrying things.

A. Thistle were nothing special but for 50 minutes they bossed us. We rallied a bit once they thought the points were safe.

B. If we need a striker, goalie, creative and defensive midfielders then I think we've no chance. We've signed 3 rookies so far and failed to temp a free agent from Ayr with mair clubs than jack Nicklaus.

They bossed us cause we have a couple of players that are nowhere near good enough, take the striker position for example, BG a bit of a cart horse but bullied our defenders at times, whilst at the other end, thistle makeshift defence will not have an easier afternoon this season.

We are dealing with relegation, huge difference in finance now coming through the door, we are buying from a different shop compared to last season unfortunately.

The guy from Ayr went for wages we couldn’t compete with.

Teams that''ve been in this league for years are outspending us.

Hadn’t considered the votegate impact before the game but if it’s true about Britton etc then the GIRFUY element may have been an important factor. Added to the fact that we are the favourites this season and all teams will want our scalp then it’s likely the mental battle is where it was lost yday.
Not going to panic after one game. Let’s see how GB reacts
