Tend to agree that we don’t need to panic. Away from home I’d imagine Byrne will start again. Can see one of the the 2 Zak’s coming in up top

Agreed except I'd play Zach Robinson ahead of Jakubiak if he's shown anything at all in training.

Some rockets up arses this week also required.

Bowyer has a big decision already. Neither Jakubiak or Rudden can play as a 10 in a 4 2 3 1 at this level. They're not physical enough.

I asked the question yesterday about whether Rudden would have started ahead of Graham for Partick on Saturday. Any time I saw Partick last season they were 4 4 2, so it gives us an insight into what McCall was seeing. He knows Rudden and played him in a 2. He knows Jakubiak and he didn't play him.

Robinson is a 20 year old lad who's been playing at nowhere near the level of the Championship.

That's a weak forward line anyway way you look at it.

Bowyer needs a number 10 soon if he's going to stick with 4 2 3 1, in the meantime he may have no choice but go 4 4 2.

I'd go -

Kerr French Sweeney Marshall

McMullan Anderson Mulligan McGinn

Rudden Jakubiak.

This really should have been sorted well before the start of the season.

Tbf to GB he probably thought he had worked out a team and formation. The 4231 worked well in the cup. A few mitigating factors like McGowan injury, defence howlers, Partick on a FU mission however also possible that he falsely thought that the cup games were a good barometer for the league and we have ended up falling short.
I do wonder if the lack of understanding of the Scottish game and the level of the championship might be a factor. I’m sure GB/BB have plenty knowledge but sometimes the experience of old dogs like McCall is more useful. Keeping someone like Dave Mackay in post might have proved handy in that regard.

For several seasons we have been far too soft and don't seem like changing anytime soon. Partick had 4 or 5 "combative " players who were all over us. As we saw with Ross Co, St Mirren, Motherwell etc, we get bullied every game. Partick had players who were being physical, without giving away a foul, and if it's a foul, it's not bad enough for a booking. We can't seem to be aggressive without a yellow. As we saw with CA the whole season, if Max or Byrne make a tackle, it's a booking. I know they had 2 bookings, but it could have been a lot more. We need to be tougher and more streetwise (although I hate that term).

Good points. Very much agree.

I was hoping Bowyer could fairly quickly identify the type of player we need from his time down south. If the best we can do is Zach Robinson then we're going to struggle.

Managerial experience will only get you so far, Tommy Wright had a very good record at the top level in Scotland but he had a tough time putting together a side in this league. It cost him his job. Ultimately McInnes also struggled initially and they required the Lafferty signing to get them over the line.

That's not to say Bowyer can't get things sorted, but it's going to come down to recruitment and he's not got much time to spare. His current squad isn't good enough and no amount of tactics will sort that.

Do you know a bit about Robinson? What's he like?

You've seen ten miniutes of Zach Robinson but it's very clear that you don't rate him.

Why? We all want to know what the issue is with the guy.
