Changes

Recommended Posts

Following the schooling for Ayr on Friday night, Bowyer mentioned that for Tuesday’s match there are going to be changes. Will dropping to the bench be a sign of lack of faith for those who will be making way for the change? Last time Bowyer made a comment like this was reference to first half v Thistle when McGinn appeared to be the fall guy and he’s hardly kicked a ball since. Being overlooked to replace McCowan might have been further indication of a lack of faith. However, I’m not sure our squad depth can facilitate such a hard line.
Apart from a change in tactics (current system is maybe not working too well) I think we might see Robinson, Ashcroft and perhaps Legzdins starting.

Seems to me he has to make changes and everyone will want the team to pick themselves up. Agree about legzdins. Think he must be fully fit however and back to commanding his area. That is a major call and he needs the old defensive set up when legzdins first took over from Jack Hamilton. Man management should be something Bowyer knows a lot  about and it seems to me that he makes his decision and then goes with it. If you are not in the current plan you know where you stand, it does not mean that you are not going to get a chance when changes need to be made because  the circumstances demand it. McGowan injury is a case and point.

Man management is the key to us achieving our aims this season imo. GB has been dealt a poor hand with a disjointed squad of players. It's up to him though to find a system to suit what he's got if he can't wheel & deal and get in replacements. I think this window will be a window (or two) too soon for him to have us playing in his preferred style and that he'll have to find a compromise. Isolating players and being critical of others only ever tends to go one way when you're not getting results. Lacking discipline and losing poor goals is another worrying sign that all is not well. Tuesday will see GB attempting to make a statement by leaving out his perceived underperformers. A win will paper over the cracks. Pissing players off that he'll almost certainly need at some point won't help him achieve his aims though.

I suppose this is the element I’m concerned with. The McGinn situation appears to argue against this. After Partick,  GB went public to say something along the lines of he wasn’t happy with certain players and implied there would be changes. Next game McGinn was dropped and I don’t think we’ve seen him since, even though he would have been a direct replacement for McCowan on Friday night without disrupting the formation/tactics of the team after only half an hour into the game (albeit Ayr we’re exposing us at this stage).
Just concerned that the post match interview has echoed his frustration with certain players.
I was initially sceptical with @MacSmith misgivings about GB after opening day defeat; however, his concerns are being justified in games where we are picking up points as well as the games where we are being carved open at will. I guess my point is (I appreciate I’m rambling here), it could be a dangerous game for Bowyer to use the media to indirectly voice his frustrations against certain players. Especially if the players simply aren’t of a standard capable to do what’s being asked for. Our squad is small and ostracising players is maybe an approach we can ill-afford, especially when the squad replacements aren’t that much better (if at all) themselves.

Can see a few changes.

Not sure he'll change keeper (but I do think Legzdins should come back on)

Sweeney out Ashcroft in

Mccowan is probably out through injury. Soujds like Gowser possibly picked up a knock too? So changes likely in midfield, possibly a return for Anderson.

I'd be looking to get Robinson on alongside Rudden as well. I reckon the two them up top would be a right handful.

Its imperative we get players in this week, the problem is moving players out who are on Premiership wages, apart from Byrne, there's not one player a top team takes a chance on.

McGinn, Jakubiak, Sheridan, Lawlor, Chapman are 5 that we would definitely move on, but we will definitely struggle to get any club to take them on.

Legdzins, Ando, Williamson, Robinson, McGhee and Ashcroft in.

Sharp, McGowan, McCowan, Sweeney, McMullan, Marshall out.

Wholesale.😁

Apologies.  Autocorrection just spotted

I think Bowyer knows how to manage players. I agree with concerns expressed by macsmith. Bowyer has to find a way for our team to defend. Legzdins had a spell of shutouts under McPake and it seems to me we have Ashcroft coming back to strengthen our defence. Change the goalie and bringing in Ashcroft would mean a return to a goalie being in charge of his goal area. I hope it would be a simple transition. McGinn for McCowan seems straightforward. Byrne back protecting as a defensive mid and a front 2 from Rudden Jakubiack Robinson.

Seems to me we have good options. Bowyer needs to get his players organised. We came back at the start of the second half against Ayr. Collapsed for the second time after they score. Sorting out that seems to me to be the key and as macsmith says Bowyer needs to get a grip.

He isn't managing the players though. McGinn hasn't had a sniff after the manager hauled him off at h/t on the opening day then made thinly disguised criticisms of a player, or player's, attitude. Byrne has been told to leave and hasn't been involved at all recently. Lawlor is another who's completely out of the picture. Jakubiak & Sheridan might be injured but who knows?.

Did not believe the Byrne been told to leave story but there is a horrific rumour about him and McGhee being swapped for Stevie May. Will take a more pessimistic view of Bowyer in future.

Byrne himself has confirmed that he's been told to find another club. Probably because he's on a good wage and probably because he's pretty much guaranteed a move to another club.
