With some of the football off due to the Queen's death and at a loose end I've watched a bit of the women's game. Maybe I have been unlucky but the standard is beyond awful. Political correctness nowadays seems to want to put the women's game up on the same level as the mens' but it is way off being so. What us worse is the commentators trying to talk the game up to a level it isn't. The screeching of the 'crowd' is irritating and the general standard of footballing skills really poor and the goalkeepers......!

If you watch woman's football and expect it to be the same level as the men's, then you are setting yourself up for a big let down.

It's like saying you are going to watch woman's tennis and expect it to be the same as men's.

There is no political correctness here, the women's game just wants a fraction more money that is currently being spent to help better their training faculties and pitches to play on.

What do you expect? The amount of money which is poured into men's football dwarfs the amount that is spent on women's game.

I would suggest that you either lower your expectations and enjoy it for what it is, or wait another 20 years to the point where a hell of a lot more money is spent on their game, they have better training, train faculties and pitches.

Oh and by the way, you can thank the SFA and EFA. If they hadn't banned women's football clubs back in the 1920's the women's game would be on par with just about every other sport.

I don't expect it to be at the same level as the mens; not at all. I sort of just expected it to live up to all the hype around womens football today but it doesn't come near that level, albeit in my opinion. Quality wise in many folk's opinion women's tennis is a better watch than the more power game of the mens' and the quality is good in both. The point I was making is that the media, especially since England's Euro success, have been making outlandish claims about the quality of play on view and it is against those claims that I have made my remarks regarding lack of quality. I also take your point regarding the money in the men's game v the women's game; there is no comparison. It is not the same for all levels though. At the very youngest ages the money spent on girls is the equal of the boys and so it should be but in my particular area it has actually been the girls who have had far better facilities and funding than the boys. For more than a generation we have had boys having to change at the side of the park while girls have had far better facilities handed to them, their own pitch, clubhouse/changing rooms etc. even today facilities that the boys game cannot compete with. Hopefully that can be equalised and stop some of the ill feeling that has been generated.

Maybe I will give the women's game a miss for a while as you suggest and try again in the future.

When I watch women's football I often compare it to youth football. You often see a slowed down version of a men's game, a game that lacks the power and pace of the mens game.

From a coaching point of view a technically good game where players have the time to play the ball as they've been coached to, defenders playing out from the back, midfielders passing and moving, strikers scoring goals.

Less cheating in the women's game which is good to see.

All good until it comes to the goalkeepers.....the standard of goalkeeping is poor to say the least.

The younger girls that are coming through now are of a much higher standard than they were 10 years ago, and this is because they are getting better training and more game time at this age.

However, once they get to about 16+ that's when it stops and is nowhere near the same as the boys in their age groups. From this age forward, there is a lot more money invested and poured into men's training and faculties.

I have watched a lot of women's football over the years and the standard is getting better because a lot more resources and money is getting spent on it, but until grassroots, women's football is given a lot more attention and money, it will take a lot longer for these girls to get to a better standard.

Now that Sky is investing a lot more money you will see a lot more young girls and women become professionals compared to many of them being part-timers even when it comes to the international players.

If these youngsters got the same about of money, time and coaching as women's tennis, for example, then maybe a lot more people would take the game a lot more seriously.

Also, which game did you watch?
