Just back from Oswestry

Recommended Posts

Good trip all in all, met a few familiar faces, couple of pints before and after a decent game, a win and a clean sheet - all good stuff.

But why anyone thinks they need to take flares to a game I have no idea so a big thanks to to 'The South East Section' for essentially dragging our club down to the level of those in the west or those across the road. There was a third flare by the way (that I know of), they let it off outside the ground after the game. Hope they're happy with their contribution to the game.

Not condoning the use of flares but these are a bunch of young impressionable laddies who are seeing the use of flares as the done thing and an accepted way of creating a bit of an atmosphere.

The authorities need to set an example and tackle the big two if they want the bringing of flares into football grounds to end. 3 flares on a long distance piss up isn't right but isn't the end of the world either. I've seen worse.

Creating the atmosphere's definitely good.

I agree that it's not the worst thing to happen at a game.

The "they're only bairns" excuse doesn't work for me, a lot of them are young men of working age.

We really can't blame the old firm for our fans behviour in the Teacake Cup, The South East Section/Section 18 are our wannabe Ultras.

It's a pity this is detracting from a good 3-0 away from home victory.

It's not detracting from the win, just made the comment that it's dragged the club down a level.

Apologies if I have misread your post Rev, I thought you were saying they are only young boys and the SFA should tackle Rangers and Celtic before aiming their beady eye towards what happens with Dundee fans.

I'll delete my post if you want

Don't need to delete it.

I'm sure you read correctly what I posted but decided to quote me but with your own choice of words to add weight to a different viewpoint.

Flares aren't allowed in futba grounds. These young laddies are wrong in bringing them into futba grounds. Our own fans call them out for this and other perceived issues. They'll never learn if they see other clubs doing the things that they're being criticised for, on a grander scale. The only place I've saw them being criticised is on here.

If the club publicly decide to single them out whilst allowing what we see when certain other clubs visit our ground then I personally think that they'll be out of order. Maybe the SLO can have a quiet word with them though on the club's behalf which would be a decent compromise.

A long distance away game, drink and immaturity aren't always a great mix. If releasing a flare was the worst thing anyone ever did at that age then I'd think they're not doing too bad.

You're probably right. Not justifying their behaviour but who didn't do 'silly' at that age?.

Personally I think we quietly self police this. As we saw with the banner and name issues last season these laddies are quite receptive to wise advice.

It becomes an issue if we make it an issue imo.
