I thought he'd have kept mcghee alongside ashcroft with French rb and kerr LB but it worked well enough. French misjudged a couple of balls over his head late on which led to chances but Mcghee and kerr were solid at fb and ashcroft was a colossus.

I think personally that is our best back 4 in these positions and Sweeney and Marshall should not get back in when fit/ over suspension. While all are adaptable 3 of the 4 are always switching around and can't be ideal. Barring injuries, playing that same 4 would definitely improve with continuity over a few games.

Marshall by far a better option at left back over McGhee. Last season fans adored Sweeney now basically he’s a donkey. Funny old game football

Marshall is obviously a more natural LB but imo not a good defender and he is injured a lot. He had to come off again in Wales. He seems to have this recurring muscle problem. McGhee was very, very good v Hamilton. People keep copying the media referring to the "modern day fullback" regarding attacking. I'd rather the full backs concentrated on defending and not getting caught up the park.

I don't get this modern day full back stuff.  Dundee's full backs in the seventies were very attack minded.  Bobby Wilson, Dave (Biffo) Johnstone, Tommy Gemmell etc.

McGhee was decent yesterday but Hamilton are easily one of the worst sides in the league. Offered very little except a 10-15 minute spell. Marshall plays over McGhee for me every week at left back

McGhee wasn't decent, he was very good. McGhee, French and Kerr have to play wherever they are asked and all get moved around. Keep the same 4 and it will pay off.  In 3 seasons Marshall has only ever played left back. He should be better than he is. IMO.

This is what the media churn out with TTA and Robertson etc. BTW you're talking about players who were capable of beating Celtic at Hampden 49 years ago. We couldn't do it now.

Would agree with McGhee he was excellent and again in a position he won’t have played a great deal in.A few things stood out for me - his passing through the lines was excellent , dominant in the air , composure and link up play with others . Add that to his challenge in last few minutes in the 6 yard box which was as good as it gets and an area where Marshall has struggled with us , losing goals at the back post .For me if Marshall played we drop a point on Saturday with that chance .

In saying that clearly the balance of the team would be better with a left footed player there. Not sure McGhee will stay in that position because of this and maybe Marshall will get back in soon , even tomorrow night . I would say that McGhee , Ashcroft and French start now wherever the manager plays them  on current form

Marshall can't get a game purely because he's left footed? Why should Kerr drop out. He didn't play against ICT, so his last 4 games are 3-0, 3-0, 3-0 and 2-0.
