Tale of 2 keepers

Recommended Posts

I thought Legzdins was very slow getting to the 1st and 3rd goals. Meanwhile Gourlay had 2 or 3 great saves.

Imo we don't have a solid keeper. Sharp is a good shot stopper but can't judge through balls, Legzdins is hit or miss and lawlor is a shite Legzdins.

This plays a big part in the number of goals we concede.

100% agree Wattie.

I would have liked a new GK signed in the summer as a priority, both keepers have proved they are not at the required level.

You just have to look at United to realise the importance of a good keeper last season. United were P!sh last season yet he kept them in most games, gave the defence a platform and trust, its the same defence they have this season apart from the GK!

I think Legzdins is more than adequate for a steady, lower half top flight team. Certainly has his weaknesses though and has probably the weakest reflexes out of the keepers we've had in a while.

More concerning for me is that I thought his biggest strength was his domination of his box, but he seems to now be glued to his line since coming back into the team. Surely can't be a managerial instruction? That'd be madness!

I think Bowyer would have wanted a new keeper but the issue was to do that he needed to ship out Lawyer and Ledgzins (or at least one of them). Given it’s unlikely any club would offer them what we were/are paying them then his hand was tied in getting a keeper in!!

Definitely Sharp for me, Adam should’ve done much better with first and his “effort “ at the 3rd was a disgrace , okay sharp’s distribution is not the best , but he’s easily the best shot stopper at dens , as for all keepers not coming off their lines probably Alan Coombe fault , should bring in Rab Douglas to sort them out

Unfortunately we are in a position where we have a very promising young goalkeeper, who is still very much learning his trade, a run of the mill keeper (Legzdin) who is prone to errors and a 3rd choice who seems to be no better than a lower league goalie.

I think GB did the right thing playing Sharp in the first instance and backed him again when it was obvious that the laddie needed a rest from the first team. It's at this point you hope Legzdin will come in and steady the ship for a number of games but sadly it looks as if there's been no improvement and imo there's no way Sharp would have let in goals 1 and 3 the other night (tbf the defending on both didn't help the goalie).

The conundrum for GB is does he stick with AL and hope his form improves or does he recall HS earlier than anticipated? In an ideal world Sharp would return to a team that's been solid in defence and will offer the kid some protection. I can't see that happening soon sadly.

I'm glad I'm not picking the team but I suspect big Adam will be between the sticks on Saturday but any more slip ups and Sharp will be back.
