The Championship : The Worst Or Most Competitive In Years

Recommended Posts

Personally I think both. Even as bad as we are we could win this league or on the other hand could struggle mid to lower table. Imo we won't end up bottom two or win the thing so the most likely scenario is making the play offs or mid table mediocrity. As a long suffering fan of course I would love us to sh1tfest our way to scraping first place somehow although this would require a major investment in new players come January. If we got a play off spot then we could easily get to the final game the way the teams are matched but would likely lose to the Premier team. Again, though, if we scaped through to promotion via the play offs I would take it  but be filled with trepidation as to what would happen to us in the Premier. We would require to ditch more or less the whole team and with our record of recruitment I would worry about who we would sign. How teams like Motherwell, St. Mirren and for the most part of the past few seasons Ross County, can find quality recruits from the lower leagues down south or from abroad amazes me and makes me envious. Also a number of teams that have come up over the years have had an exciting team of youngsters backed up with reasonable quality experience and the said teams have consolodated by updating the experience to Premier quality to complement and bring on the youngsters further.

I am coming round to the view, that even taking into account how horrible this league is, that we should persevere with the young players even if it takes going up out of the equation. Anderson, Mulligan, Cameron etc. (and the big question is do we have any more quality youngsters to make up the 'etc.') would benefit and if for once we could recruit well next summer we could look more hopefully at a challenge that could be successful and lead to progress in the Premier the next season.

Finally I don't think Bowyer is the man to lead us in this direction. His team selections make no sense and his constant chopping and changing at times for no reason is unsettling. So it looks like new stadium required, new manager required and new team required. Apart from that all is well!

I totally agree with your last paragraph!

Even an amateur manager would not play two left footers in front of two right footers!

Is this man trying to lose the support?!

Not sure it’s the worst. First time in a while there hasn’t been one of the ‘big teams’ in there so it’s definitely more even. The standard of football in general isn’t great but that’s reflected in Prem too and imo is no better or worse than the last time we were down here.
Lack of Hearts, Dabs etc means it’s a great chance for a few teams to win the league. Like it or not, Partick, ICT and ourselves are all at the same level these days ie somewhere around the 11th-15th best team in the country and anyone at that level could end up winning it. If we go up we certainly wont stay up with current squad.

We are a big club when one considers our support and especially our travelling support in relation to other teams. We have been badly managed for years now. The last manager that was any good was Knox and maybe you could include Duffy there, after all he took us to two finals. The standard of player being recruited has taken an alarming drop, but I suppose you could blame that on the two administration's. We seem at the moment to be a big club with a small club mentality trying to hire managers on the cheap. PB and others are right enough at being critical of Nelms. Who was behind Celtic, Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, and Rangers successes, their chairmen who had a vision for their respective clubs and appointed managers based on that vision. You could say the same about Dundee's success in the sixties, it all stemmed from Anderson and his vision. We will have to see what Keyes and Nelm's vision is once the new stadium is built. They came into the club at a difficult time and have stabilised things, but surely they realise by now that the club needs to be established as a Premiership club and that needs a good manager and good backroom staff. The academy is far better than it was. Strachan has been appointed as Director of Football or something similar. These are encouraging small steps in the right direction. Is Bowyer the right appointment, time will tell, it is early days yet. It is about time that the supporters of this club who have remained faithful through the hard times were given something that would excite them. The two administration's have had an adverse effect on the running and playing side of the club, but let us hope that we are seeing things going on the right direction.

I would like to see Sam Fisher getting game time at Dunfermline- he is young and can pass a ball and was doing well before his injury.

Potential to be far better than any centre half currently playing for us.

Imo, without teams like Hearts, Utd & Kilmarnock being in the Championship there's a greater chance that a club of Dundee's size can win this League. We're in a bit of a period of transition though. Our current squad isn't good enough for the Premiership (some would argue not good enough for the Championship either), the vast majority are OOC at the end of the season anyway. We've got talented kids but none of them have signed the new contracts that are apparently sitting waiting to be signed. On paper this Championship is weaker than its been recently but is there any real long term benefit in spending money and winning promotion?. With this team, if they resigned, we'd come straight back down again and I can't see the owners spending the money or the manager having the skillset to build a Premiership capable squad virtually from scratch. We'd be taking a bit of a risk but maybe rebuilding away from the Premiership isn't necessarily a bad thing?.

A few days ago someone on here put a link to Dunfy forum. They were full of praise for him and said it would be good if they could sign him permanently.
