I think there is a lot of leadership/credibility with Bowyer’s comments regarding McMullan’s need for a ‘breather’. I liked how he praised McMullan’s contribution this season and his assessment that a McMullan on form is a nightmare for any defender. Equally he is very candid about his dip in form but humanises the situation with McMullan becoming a new father.
I’ve probably rambled to get to the point, but I think managers too often just say a player is injured or has a virus or something rather than just being honest in saying that form has dipped. McMullan has been brilliant for us and will take a lot of positives from Bowyer’s honesty at what is probably a very hectic time for him personally.
