There are just some things in life that come around just by pure accident, an unimportant post in a forum that grows into a monster and suddenly before you know it... bang... it becomes an internet sensation.

However, what makes it more fascinating is, I watched this start and unfold on P+B each week nd was left waiting to hear more of the exploits of Jocky and Leigh from Dundeebarry! (Barry Phillips).

Barry Phillips has actually worked hard and turned this 'forum blog' into a book called the The Tartan Special One, and now there is an online campaign to help get votes in the online poll by the Scottish Book Trust to find the nations favourite character from a novel or graphic novel written in Scotland.

It seems to be paying off as bosses at the Book Trust say he is "showing strongly" in their poll, which closes next Wednesday.

Now if you haven't read the book and you are not adverse to hearing the odd....no wait, every line, paragraph and page full of sweary words from Jocky himself... then I suggest you read it or ask someone to get it for you for Christmas... You will not be let down.

I might be biased because (like our very own Joe), he is an author from Dundee and it's about the (so called Jocky/leigh era) of our great club in parody.

I watched the blog grow from those first few P&B posts and have been paying attention to it ever since. The books good but it's nothing compared to the original blog, it was hilarious and seeing it blow up like it did was very surprising. It's not for everyone and it might be a 'you had to be there' thing but the reaction from people who don't like it somehow makes it a bit funnier. Good to hear Leigh seen the funny side of it. If I ever met him it would be very hard not to say Hiya Leigh! Hiya pal!

Read the book twice - a touch of genius and there has to be a follow-up where-are-they-now. Am hoping the lion in the gairden found a good home.
