Its fair to say that result today brings with it the end of the Tony Doc Honeymoon period and also hopefully remove any doubt ,if there was still some , of just how lightweight we are in attack  .

We have so far faced pretty average opposition this pre season which , although great for winning moral , unfortunately  also maybe paints an inaccurate picture of just where we are in reality .

Airdrie are a step up from Brechin and Bonnyrigg , not much of  step up but  a step up and we failed miserably

We never at any point looked like scoring there today and we MUST spend cash to bring in a PROPER Striker,.

We are screaming out for someone who has a presence , is big and strong who doesn't run around like a headless chicken but instead operates through the middle , pinning defenders ,  being an outlet to play off of as we move forward , someone  who can lead the line and boss center halves and who the ball sticks to when its played  up to him . Someone the rest of the side instinctively know they can ping it in to , he's going to be there and its going to stick .

If we do not add that to our side we are 100% going to face a very long and difficult  season .

Perhaps our Mexican forward will prove to be the answer and its very early days to judge him  given he has just arrived in the country . On  the admittedly brief showing so far though  I fear we are still looking for the answer to what is a GLARING issue in our side .

We are powder-puff up top , there's no out ball and it doesn't stick when we do play it up there which in turn then stops any kind of fluent play and ultimately , against better sides , will lead to us never reliving the pressure and eventually losing games .

The real Ba is oot now and unless we want to spend the entire season scrapping at the bottom we need this sorted .

Not so sure it's just up front tbh.

But the goals have certainly dried up (3) in the last 4 games. Against what standard of opposition?

Its not just the lack of goals for me its the entire style of play with not having that focal point up top who can get us up the park .

We are way too lightweight up top .

i'd take thomas back while not an out and out scorer he'd give defences more problems than rudden did today.

To be fair a half asleep Three Toed Sloth would give defences more problems than Rudden did today

And a proper midfielder. Need both. Badly.

true story 🤣 we really need a big battering ram upfront with robinson playing off him...unfortunately until we get that midfield sorted we'll contine to struggle to score goals...coyne and wright(best partnership ive saw at dens) would struggle with our present midfield behind them.

So far, we've made a different mistake than when we last went up but the end result will be the same - relegation (unless there is another team who've recruited worse than us) - McPake stayed loyal to Div 1 players who got us up and this time we seem to have brought on similar with a lack of proven pedigree at the top level.

But, as I started with- that's how it stands today.  We have to hope a couple of top league level guys are coming in.

Regardless,  it's going to be a long hard season and we'll be in the bottom group throughout.

There are plenty of teams who are looking for the striker described above but unfortunately not many available, certainly in our price bracket, and as for Kwame Thomas he signed for Aldershot 5 days ago.

Interested to hear who fans think we should sign who are available and within our budget.

It’s not our job to find or even suggest who to sign who is suitable , that’s what the clubs job is .

im not saying these guys come cheap but likewise I’m not suggesting we need to pay £10k a week either .

Big  Kwame is exactly the type we need , Brian Graham at Partick would also do the job and while I’m not saying we should sign him it does show there are players out there who would fill that role and wouldn’t cost the earth .

If we need to invest a bit more though then it’s an unfortunate necessity because failure to do so is a false economy given the cost of relegation .

Motherwell are a club similar in size to us, I cant recall the last time they were relegated. They regularly sign strikers who can score, or bring players up from England who do a job. Livi have had a run the Premiership bringing in half a dozen new starters every season. Killie have had one season in the Championship in about 30-40 years? St Johnstone must have had a solid 15 years in the top flight.

Why can they find strikers and players in general who do a job? The vast majority of clubs are better run behind the scenes than us, its just a given now.

I don't think TDs honeymoon is over, purely because I don't think he will even get one, we all know what to expect sadly. Whoever is responsible for signing players, and frankly I don't believe a single word coming out of Dens about it, they need to up their game massively.

I was watching the Motherwell game and again they have a big unit up front who protects the ball when it’s played in to him .

is he the best striker in the league? .. most certainly not but he does the job of being an outlet well and most of not all the other clubs have similar players .. As you rightly point out , and not for the first time , except us 🤷‍♂️
