Jim Mac

I hope I'm wrong but this is starting to sound like Gary Irvine a couple of seasons back and that seemed to go on to the day before the season started.  I can't see this management team and BOD being as accommodating as those when Irvine was swithering so I would imagine that a realistic deadline has been set for all these offers.  I like Jim Mac a lot but would it be the end of the world if he decided to move on?  Not in the least.    He would always get a good reception when he came back.

He played in 41 games last season. Who plays in his place for the 41 games next season? We don't know what we're going to get from Low yet so it could cause us a big problem not having McAlister around.

Forcing him out the door because he's undecided would be cutting our nose off to spite our face. Let's wait and see.

No, forcing him to decide because he's putting us on hold in the hope of something better whilst we could potentially be missing out on targets is the correct decision. He's nothing special despite the number of games he played in last season and he's far from irreplaceable.

He's a solid pro, nothing more, nothing less.

And why then was Jim Mac not offered a contract extension all the earlier then? DFC waited and waited and then offered, surely Jim Mac or indeed any player has the right to weigh up all options within a defined timescale? As stated earlier he did play 41 games probablly double what Simon Ferry and Garry Harkins played.

And he also probably thought Rangers would win the play off and be back in the SPL, so now he has a) get an offer B) to think about does he drop a league too c) and his first child is on the way too.

So let's not be toooooooooo hasty to demand a contract decision.

We started last season thinking we didn't really need him. Initially he was on the bench but eventually proved invaluable. If he wasn't in the squad we would have missed out on top six.

There is no rush on him signing a new deal as he's not critical to our style of play but we need him to step in when others are not available.

To say he's holding out for something better just because he hasn't signed a deal is unfair. We have no idea what the situation is with this contract, his wages, the amount of playing time he's being offered. He's 29 and the next contract he signs is crucial for him so he needs to get it right.

Fair play to jim if he has the opportunity to go there I'm not surprised to see him holding off signing on for us. If it was me the other way around it would be a no brainer! If he goes he goes with my best wishes and if he stays I'll welcome him back. Would be a great signing for sevco as he's been over the course in the championship and knows how to win. He is a winner.

No matter what though f**k sevco!!

McAlister has been a great servant for us, if he goes then he goes with our best wishes. If he decides to stay then good, he can be relied on to perform consistently. He was integral to us getting promoted and consolidating this season.

I doubt there's a more honest player in football. Great pro.

Agree with this post 100%, I would like him to stay, we won't get better for the money he is on

I still don't think we need him. He's a dependable, rarely injured player. The idea that we would have missed out on the top 6 without him is purely conjecture from yourself.

You're correct that he's not critical to our style of play but he is handy to step in when others are not available, that being said, there absolutely is a rush for him to sign if we are to have our squad completed for the start of July. If he drags this on for another week before saying no, who knows how many potential targets we may have missed out on?

Suggestions are he is holding out for something better and if you note in my original post, I clearly said that if these circumstances were true then I would remove the deal off the table. Granted, we don't have any idea, but if it was the case as I pointed out in my original post then the deal should absolutely be removed.

Finally, you can say it's an important age for a player to get their move right all through their career. It's important for a promising 19 year old to sign the correct deal or face fading away, it's important for a 25 year old to sign the right deal so they can play the very best football they can. It's important for a 29 year old to sign a decent deal to secure himself and it's important for a 34 year old to get that last good deal before he has to decide what he's doing after football. Football is an insecure business, and if he's choosing to pussyfoot around with us then he can do one as he is certainly not irreplaceable in my view.

All this being said, I'd love for McAlister to sign on again. He's a good guy to have in the squad, but time is ticking.

Ludo what you're saying to Cobra re "conjecture" kinda sums up your posts on Jim Mac.You both,as far as I can see, have different opinions but that's all they are, opinions.Nobody knows if Jim is pussyfooting around or if we'll miss out on potential targets, thats just guesswork.

Jim has never hidden the fact that he's Rangers daft but that's never stopped him giving 100%.If he's waiting on an offer coming in from the team he's supported all his days then so be it,you cannae begrudge him that opportunity. The seasons a good while away yet anyway so loads of time to replace 1 player if need be.
