They posted it on their Celtic B twitter account which indicates it will be their lowland league side coming for this.

Just a totally bizarre choice of date and opposition. Will be doing well to break 1500 which is ashame.

Totally agree, Celtic are pretty unpalatable even when there's 3 points at stake, the opposition plus the date (am I right in thinking Scotland play that night?) will definitely influence the crowd numbers. With that said though I'll probably end of going, I think the Mrs will be going so I'll probably tag along. Shame for Cammy if he doesn't get the numbers. Maybe 1 or 2 ex-Dee's will turn out for him though to give the numbers a boost?. Can see the likes of Gowser and GGH making cameos.

Hardly any tickets sold. Do Celtic fans even know this is taking place?

You would be hoping for Cammy's sake that they roll out a few legends from the O'Neil era and posting it on their official account. Not gonna be much appetite from the celtic fans if its their youth team I wouldn't have thought.

Maybe Kerr should be asking Speroni to return the favour from when he had his testimonial. Hopefully that would bring Fab Cab and the rest along as well.

I work with a Celtic fan who doesn't get to many, if any, games nowadays who's considering going. As you say though a couple of legends would give the crowd a boost.

Maybe Cammy will offer to put Henrik Larsson up for the night?.

I don't think the opposition is as big a negative as the date itself.  Other than a real big name from the EPL I doubt it would make much difference if it was Celtic's first 11 given the Scotland game that night.

I think it's the exact opposite of what you say HK. If it was Celtic's first 11 then they would probably fill the Shankly. As it is they will probably just bring a couple hundred. Most typical Celtic fans don't actually give a toss about the Scottish national team.

It's a slap in the face to one of our most loyal players. Testimonials these days are like hens teeth and should be a big deal. Whoever organised this has fucked up big time imo

. I'm sorry if this upsets anyone but this is a embarrassment how this has been handled. Amateur hour springs to mind!!!

Would Celtic fans travel through in numbers for a friendly game against Dundee though, Steven?  Maybe I'm wrong but I would imagine the majority would be those who live around Dundee and they are maybe almost as likely to attend regardless of the team they put on the park.  To me, if I were a Celtic fan I'd not be up for a midweek trip through to Dundee to see the same players as I see every week play in an exhibition match against a much inferior opposition. Throw in the Scotland game and I just can't see it.

I do agree though that it's not what I'd have expected for a guy who has been around  long enough to merit a testimonial. The only thing I could think of was that Cammy himself wasn't that fussed but that seems highly unlikely.

To even get a crowd of 2,500 will be a big ask.

I think if it was arranged for pre season and marketed property then they could potentially full the away end.

I just feel it's the wrong team to play in a friendly, a team from the same division as we are. A pre season friendly against a top EPL side is what he deserves imo. Or even a match between the current DFC team against a DFC team from the last 10 years would have been good imo.

The whole testimonial game idea is outdated these days imo and is a pale reflection on what it used to be decades ago. I'll always associate these games with long serving players coming to the end of their careers, not 28 year olds, regardless of how long they have been at the club or how loyal they have been.

Arrange other testimonial events by all means if you have to but the timing and opposition being discussed is maybe a reflection on the busy game schedules the bigger clubs have these days.  If a game has to be arranged, a preseason game Vs Utd in August (Forfarshire Cup??) would have been a better idea.

I would imagine that the committee would have liked to have organised a game for this pre season, but given that we we had just punted Gary Bowyer, we were managerless and didn't have a full squad of players it would have been difficult to organise anything.

I can see the Celtic team on the night being managed by Strachan and including Big Rab, Si Ferry, Gowser and couple of others already mentioned.....they might even ask Charlie Mulgrew to give us a pantomine villain to boo.
