Goals Will Be Our Problem

Genuinely believe if we had a Kane Hemmings-esque striker, we'd be very close to the finished article.

Zak Rudden - Lots of effort, but still, for me, nowhere near being a top level striker.

Amadou Bakayoko - Has his uses, but easily could have cost us the game last night with his slackness and don't see him being a freescoring striker. Bit too lackadaisical for me at times. Has a big frame, but doesn't win as many headers as he should. I'd be happy with him getting around 5-6 goals this season. Sounds like I'm being overly negative but I do like Bakayoko and the clear first name of the current batch of strikers to be on the teamsheet but he's more of a link up man than our goal getter.

Zach Robinson - Loads of potential and still (IMO) our best striker, but struggled this season being out of position and looks low on confidence. Key we get him up and running. Probably a step too far to be relying on him so soon into his career though.

Diego Pineda - Good wee cameo yesterday but another one I don't see being a freescoring striker.

 7 goals in 8 games.

3 goals came from corners

1 from a free-kick

3 from open play and these all came in the first 3 league games of the season.

Not expecting a 20 goal a season striker - but our lack of goals from open play are the reason we're the draw specialists in the league so far.

We are not the only team in this league with this issue.

Top quality goalscorers outside the old firm are like gold dust.

Pineda’s cameo yesterday gave me a glimmer of hope that we might have a striker who can provide a goal threat. I felt it was going to be one those games where we could play for 5 hours and not score; however, Pineda changed things a bit and the County keeper had to start making a couple of decent (albeit not that difficult) saves. Pineda was running with the ball to create his chances which is something that I think Zach and Zak have struggled to do this season.

Absolutely - but behind St Johnstone & County we are the next lowest scorers in the league alongside Motherwell.

I expect St Johnstone to finish bottom, by quite a distance to be honest.

I think we'd be aiming for a push towards top 6 this season if we had a couple of strikers that could do decently. As I say, I'm not expecting a 20 goal a season striker. I think we've got a better strikeforce than Motherwell as they seem to be relying on Theo Bair, but County's strike force of Simon Murray, Eamonn Brophy & Jordan White I'd imagine will probably notch more than our strikers over the course of a season.

Our goal scoring weakness is possibly more to do with lack of midfield creativity.Last night McCowan was the only one who looked like he might do something but he cannot do it on his own.A strong driving midfielder is what we lack.Of our current squad swap Robertson for Kerr.I like Robertson but only in our own half. And Kerr is now a yard slow in defence against a mobile player but does have physical strength and poise as well as 10 years know how.His final ball can be improved but I felt recently this had improved.

We must also find a place for Lyall Cameron and could it be that Reilly might be a good option up front alongside the bug guys?

I still think that we are a central midfielder short, and very obviously a goalscorer. That was a point that in previous seasons, we wouldnt have won. but if only we could score goals. Pineda did get in behind, but I felt that both shots were fairly easy to deal with for the keeper.

Agree with pretty much most of that other than maybe Robinson being our best striker.

Posted my thoughts on all three in the man of the match thread (not Pineda as only seen him off the bench last night and first half v Inverness)

We hoofed it forward all night and sent most crosses into the arms of their goalie. Hard for any strikers to service these balls.

I think Cameron and Tiffoney would have made a big difference last night. Plus best chance of game fell to Finn who scruffed his shot.

Bakayoko wins little in the air and his passing was woeful.

Think he had 3 shots all aimed at the near post and dealt with by the keepers feet.

He has to go across goal to the far post .
