Docherty giving him glowing praise in the Courier but stops short of saying we will try to tie him up on a PCA in January. BBC gossip page, linking the Courier, says that he has confirmed that we will try to sign Bakayoko on a permanent basis come January.

What Docherty actually says is that he'll assess the squad in January but that Baka is a terrific professional and asset to the club.

I think he's got his best years ahead of him and he will mature into quite an effective player at this level with a bit more time. We've seen flashes of good but you do see just a tad of him that you could imagine has greatly frustrated past teams.

I'd imagine though that given that pretty much all of his senior football has been played in League One in England (aside from a half season spell in the Championship for Coventry) then his aspirations will be fairly high to get a decent sized club at that level with a contract offer that you wouldn't think we'd get near. It seems like he wanted away when they were relegated (and maybe his wages were a bit higher as he was seen as a bit of a coup in January signing for a fee from Bolton.

The press also reported he signed a 2.5 year deal when he signed for Forest Green in January (although relegated so maybe release clause now in play?) so I do think the press are maybe spinning a bit of a story off the back of a nothing answer from Docherty and seeing the 2024 contract expiry date on Transfermarkt (which is very often wrong).

I hope he commits to us a bit longer term (and I do think settling here a while longer could be good for his career) but I'd think there's also a fair risk he heads back down south in January if someone else comes in for him and it's an arrangement that makes sense for his parent club.
