I don't see a problem with VAR itself just now (apart from the length of time to come to a decision) but more importantly there is a problem with communication around what is going on at the time and more importantly our understanding of the fine detail of the rules of the game.  The rules around what is a handball and what constitutes dangerous play particularly, seem to change at the start of every season these days.

I've never been up-to-date with the fine detail of the rules and I'm fed up listening to tv presenters and pundits giving us the benefit of their non-experience, when they don't understand the latest rules either.  Only when you've got a refereeing expert on hand to give comment do you get any insight into why a decision was given.  Too many pundits are stuck in a time warp of the 70's when Norman Hunter could break a leg with an over the ball tackle and get a yellow card.

When a penalty decision that has been turned down is being reviewed and a referee is asked to review it at the side of the pitch, there is criticism that we all know he is going to change his original decision to give a penalty.  If he does, that's usually because under the current rules of the game what he has reviewed constitutes a penalty.  That's why, these days, it's always worth having a pop at goal on the off chance it hits someone's hand or arm.  I seem to remember a ref at Dens a couple of months back was offered the chance to change a decision and he stuck to his original decision for whatever reason.  Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

No sympathy with DCL.  Go in showing your studs like that and you are asking for trouble and he knows it.  Didn't catch him full on but clipped him.  Ref had to give that or he would have been sent down to ref the 3rd division.

Embarrassing. The handball decisions are the ones which really annoy me. Ball hammered at a player from 2 feet away and hits him in the upper arm. Penalty 😡

Agreed but that's a problem with the laws of the game and not VAR

I agree with this, foot high and studs showing. Very little contact with the opponent and he came away with the ball but how close is that to a leg breaker? Honestly thought I was the only one seeing it this way with all the uproar. High probability of that tackle causing an injury.

The laws of the game, or certainly as I remember them, say 'kicking or attempting to kick an opponent' which implies no contact is needed to penalise a challenge.

I thought the First penalty against the Govan Tax Dodgers in 2 years was harsh, i loved it even more so with the Old Firm Result, but still harsh. They have however benefitted from many of those decision's, so chuffed to see KARMA.

VAR is without doubt the worst thing to happen to football in my lifetime, possibly ever.

Football was the greatest game in the world and we all loved it. It wasn't broken and it didn't need fixed. VAR has not made things better. We don't complain about refs any less. Controversial decisions are just as frequent now as ever before.

We thought football could be reduced to a science and we were wrong. If we all just accepted that sometimes you're on the end of a rubbish decision now and then (this was the football we fell in love with), we'd be fine. But now we can't even celebrate goals properly.

I absolutely detest it. Yet 41/42 Scottish teams voted for it.
