Popular Post GordonDee Posted 3 October 2025 Popular Post Posted 3 October 2025 The Kingsway was built in 1919, I am not sure when it was made dual carriageway but I remember going to see the queen whiz past when I was around 6 or 7 and it was dual carriageway then, which is 60 years ago. Think how the city has grown in over 100 years, even the last 50. The road is completely inadequate for the needs of the city. I was in Dundee a month ago and I had not been home for 8 years, I was really surprised how busy it was and as I was coming from Aberdeen the Forfar Road was a complete nightmare. However, even with its inadequacies it should not be the main factor in decisions about our new stadium. Did the retails parks get stopped because of the Kingsway? Did other developments on that side of town end up stopped or delayed? This is political IMO and having seen a city who really needs investment shunning this really pisses me off. 13
dfcman Posted 4 October 2025 Posted 4 October 2025 I think I am right in saying that the Kingsway was always DC and it was ahead of its time as one of the first City bypasses in UK.Considerable foresight in city planning that is diametrically the opposite of what we see from TS and DCC here. 2

They stopped the bypass that would have gone from somewhere near the Bullionfield roundabout to somewhere near Tealing and taken all the through traffic away from the bit of the Kingsway that the stadium development needs.De- trunk the Kingsway. As has been said before it is not fit for purpose as a ring road any longer
Billy Campbell's Ghost Posted 4 October 2025 Posted 4 October 2025 The wide central reservations around Glamis Rd to Forfar Rd are wide as originally trams were proposed to travel along Kingsway too

The Kingsway and it’s surrounds is the main transport route to and from the North and East and will always attract commercial and social investment. It’s a dual carriageway coping with motorway volumes of traffic. Until a bypass is built it’s something we will just have to put up with and obstructing investment in the new stadium and housing is not going to help regenerate the city.

Edinburgh bypass was opened around 1991 and is at a standstill many days of the week. Car ownership is mental now that folks can walk in, no deposit, and lease a car for whatever budget suits them.

Going way OT but also why £200M+ on active travel routes in Dundee is a waste of time. Another reason being that Dundee is built on 2 massive hills so good luck getting folk to cycle. 4

Another reason being that Dundee is built on 2 massive hills so good luck getting folk to cycle. I used to cycle from Monifieth when I worked in Michelin but now that I work on the other side of town the cycling has pretty much stopped because, as you say, it's pretty hilly and a bit of a nightmare return journey, especially when it's windy . The route options are there and, for me anyway, there are no real problems with the roads for cycling it's just the distance and effort. This active travel sh*te is just part of an agenda to get rid of cars. The plan was to have this implemented by 2030 but that's been extended to 3035. The £200m+ could've been spent better elsewhere because the scheme it's been earmarked for will be a flash in the pan. Does anyone know anyone who was consulted over the spending of hundreds of millions of taxpayer's money on Feckin cycle routes?.

Broony46 Posted 5 October 2025 Posted 5 October 2025 Championship games won't attract big enough crowds so transport Scotland needs not worry
