Agree with this. Two moments of inspiration in the space of four minutes from Harkins against top of the league Hamilton gave us our first home win of the season. I don't think we could have unlocked Hamilton's defence without him that day.

I would love to see a trim Harkins on the park to face his old team on the opening day but the evidence since the red card at New Douglas Park points to Hartley seeing him as a rotation option to fill gaps rather than a key player.

Harkins started the 16 league games up to the sending off that infuriated Hartley and he started only 5 of 22 after that. I know he was injured for some of that, but he's been in and out the team ever since the red card. Hopefully pre-season will see a fresh start and a fit Harkins can get a run of games again.

I wouldn't worry Cobra - if Harkins is fit and has reached the weight the coaching staff set him, then he will be involved at some point, imo.  Our squad has improved substantially since this time last season but we still need the attributes that GGH can provide.

The way I'm seeing it Wattie is that Meggat will be one of three CH's in a 5-3-2 or the left back in a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1.   I've got no idea what Cobra's diamond formation is so don't know where he fits into that.

4 other CH's now but we were a tad lucky with injuries in central defence last season - better too many than too few.

There was another thread where we tried to say who should be going out and who should be coming in and I think I've literally mentioned going for every player right apart from Hemmings (I said Lyle Taylor instead),  Julen (think I suggested Durnan) and then maybe expected a couple to depart to stay on. I was touting David Mitchell but ended up suggesting Langfield as player/goalkeeper coach instead because I'd heard that Geddes was leaving but that hasn't happened. Pretty proud to add Ross to my list of accurate hits! *they all end up being sh**e and I feel responsible*

Really liking the way we're going about business these days. There will be a couple of hits and a couple of misses but we've not even started pre-season yet and we've got multiple different teams we can field and look in a position where we're comfortably ahead of most teams in the league in terms of preparation and it's pretty easy to look at the squads from both seasons and to be able to say that we are much better.

In regards to Ross himself though, I've always thought he looked very good but it wasn't until this season that I started to watch him a bit more (when he was on the out of contract list and he was getting decent reviews, I started to notice who he was). Against Celtic, he played the last twenty minutes or so and all of extra time. There have been a lot of comments made about how he looks really weak but he really seemed to handle himself very well and was actually a bit feisty when clashing with Brown and Biton a couple of times. All the signs are pretty good and there is nothing about him that suggests any obvious limiting factors so it is just about trying to gel all the new guys together and finding a system which suits them.

One of my worries about when we got the initial attacking signings (Loy and Hemmings) was that we would lose focus of retaining possession and the system wouldn't work that well but honestly think that if we have 3 of Stewart, Loy, Hemmings and Harkins on the park and control the ball, we will score plenty of goals.

I can see the likes of colquhoun, allan and black going out on loan down the leagues. All 3 would really benefit from, hopefully playing first team games.

I wonder if kerr and carreiro too might benefit a couple of months at a Raith or Cowdenbeath playing against good players.

Got to say Wattie from what I've seen carrerio looks a pretty decent prospect. I would hope he gets a few subbie appearances at Dens next season

I'm hoping PH will want to keep Calvin at Dens after his impressive performances against Celtic and Aberdeen.

Dylan looked class on the ball at Palace, even if it was just a friendly, so he's another Id like to see more of.

Dylan does look good. Had a mixed bag at Arbroath though, first half of the season they thought he was their star man, second half they though he was terrible as the teams fortunes coincided with his performances.

I'd like to see him out on loan to a Championship side/Upper League 1 side to prove if he can cut it.

Calvin has plenty of time to develop yet so wouldn't mind whether he's kept in amongst the squad or loaned out, whereas Carreiro's next 2 seasons will be vital to his future career - not just his time at Dens.

Well, well, well... This is something that we've not been used to at Dens since forever!

Ambitious and skilled manager - check

Contract extensions for our best players - check

Scotland call ups within our first team - check

Capable squad with strength and depth to finish in the top half of the Premiership- check

Good quality youngsters knocking on the door and the luxury of loaning them out to Championship teams to improve them - check

Ambitious and creative leadership with full support to the manager from the BoD - check

Big question - Are our supporters going to respond, buy season tickets in record numbers and / or plank their ar** on a seat at Dens every second Saturday?

Really looking forward to the season now... C'mon the Dees!
