As I’ve been going to dens since 1960 , I had the pleasure of seeing Alex right through his time at dens , he would be a stand out in our recent teams , and I totally agree re the similarities between him and Alex Bryce , at the time I knew the difference on the pitch , Alex Bryce was pigeon chested and looked like he had left the coat hanger in his shirt , but now when I see photos of that brilliant team of the early 70s I can’t tell which is which , R.I.P Alex

An Unsung Hero whilst playing with other fans favourites such as Dandy McLean, Jocky, Billy Campbell, Jim Steele, Joe Gilroy ? etc but was a valuable clog in the team along with my fav Alex Bryce, only goal i remember AK scoring was against Celtic at Dens 1-1 in league cup 1/4 final.

I remember being at both Cologne matches at Dens. The 5-4 was the best performance I've ever seen- 15 minutes till full time and the excitement was palpable

Alex was a long-term guy on a fairly regular basis and always seemed to put his heart into it. I agree with Notso's comparison between Alex and Alex Bryce. Both great servant's to Dundee.

RIP ALEX, You brought many memories flooding back.

At the 71 game, I was right at the front , SW corner, still remember a great view even with the Dee playing towards the east after HT.

I didn't start going to Dens until '75 so I don't remember Alex,  but judging by that fantastic write up, and the comments on here, he was clearly a very important player in a very impressive team.                                    Thoughts are with family and friends.          R.I.P Alex

May I add my homage to Alex.Kinninmonth.To have been an integral member of the Dundee side of the mid/late 1960s through to early 1970s places him alongside some of the greatest players to have worn the Dark Blue .Jocky Scott,Gordon Wallace,Stevie Murray to name just 3.

Others have mentioned his part in one of the greatest matches ever particularly the last 20 minutes against Cologne when we score three times in the last 20 minutes to win 5-4 on aggregate.

Another particular match I recall featuring Alex. was a Sc.Cup Quarter final against East Fife at the old Bayview Park before un unbelievable crowd of nearly 15,000 mostly Dee fans.Alex Bryce scored the only goal of the game.

Alex.you are and always be right up there and much loved by all who saw you play

I would like to read the Tribute on the Website but for some rreason cannot find it Anyone help?

From your comments above I'm not as old as you but through the mists of time and as a young laddie I remember Alex Kinninmonth and Alex Bryce as two classy players. Part of DFC teams that were a joy to watch as a young boy. AK will probably never receive the recognition of the players you mention and also others from that time, but a proper footballer, the type that every team needs.

That is indeed a fine tribute to a fine player and thankyou for posting that.I never knew the story about him being a linesman then a substitute player in the same match.

Can you imagine what certain opposition managers would have made of that today.

Ach, I don't know - didn't Fergie ref. most Man U matches when he was the boss?
