DCT's article today about 'fairness'.

Recommended Posts

Finan's bit in the Courier today about the council having to match pound for pound any spending they have regarding our proposed new stadium with similar outlays to the dayglo' mob, where to start? What a whiny, don't forget about us piece of trash journalism. Whilst I don't go along with the theory that the council have been terribly obstructive to our plans I don't get the impression that they have been overly helpful to date. I don't see what our plans have to do with United in any case. They should be treated as stand alone having no bearing on United. The whole piece comes across as mildly vindictive towards us and patronising to be honest regarding them. One particular part that comes across as particularly pathetic is the final paragraph where the writer is touting for a freebie from the council to compensate for their audacity in leasing ground to us at Riverside for the training complex. We hadn't been given a freebie, we are leasing, paying money for the rent. His point about saving the club a fortune in not having to buy land is ludicrous. Many companies decide whether to rent or buy depending on availability of land and or buildings and the best effective way to manage such a prospect. Indeed many would say renting and paying money to the council is a less prudent way of financing a project with land purchase being a better option.

Once again a DCT article written with tangerines specs on. I've given up expecting anything else unfortunately!

TBH, I thought it was an early April 1st article!

Surely just looking for a reaction and stoking the fire as regards our planning proposal?

I see he's already had a few responses in the online edition.

Sort of wondered that myself. When it comes to DCT bias I haven't said as much as many and could as you say put that heap of trash masquerading as proper journalism down as " looking for a reaction". Recently I've started judging DCTs output regarding us in the light of would they print that the other way round if circumstances were so. Imo never in month of Sunday's would they, end of!!

Further to that last paragraph nonsense, iirc were the DABs not touting for a free lease of Fairmuir Park some years ago to set up their Academy and Training Centre. Ok it fell through but I don't remember any outcry at the time from the press about it being unfair, only justifiable moans on our fans' sites. The council own many a building in the town as well as parks and open spaces. Let's say they lease a shop, commercially, to Greggs. Would they have to offer a freebie to Baynes, Goodfellows, Fisher & Donaldson etc. on the grounds of fairness? Aye right, that would be the day!!

If the article was designed to get a reaction then it sure has from me, not because I'm upset at the principle (there's an odd word to use in the same sentence as the article) of the 'argument' but because it's trash journalism of the worst kind.

Or perhaps  the Doon domain. Typical arab bias from the rag. Absolute p!sh.   WTF is the editor thinking about, allowing deranged rambling like that to get published.
