SFA Report Transition from Academy to First Team

Earlier this week the Scottish Football Association published an extensive report that puts player development and progression at the forefront, focusing specifically on the issues facing players in their transition from academy to senior football.

One of the areas the report looked into was the number of players under 21 playing for Scottish Premiership clubs in the 23/24 season. Of the12 Premiership clubs, Dundee FC were top with the number of minutes played by players under 21 and were the only Scottish Club that achieved more than 3,000 minutes, reaching 3,538 minutes last season.

This illustrates that fantastic work that the Dundee Academy is doing with producing young players. It also highlights the club’s desire to develop young players and giving them the opportunity of first team football.

Last season the club had seven players that were called up by their country at Under 21 level. Dundee also had six player 21 and under feature in the first league match of this season against Dundee United.
