Our Disallowed Goal Yesterday.

Recommended Posts

C'mon ta Fck, there are offside call's and there are marginal, subjective offside call's. On another day, another ground, another team or another officiating team that goal stands.

Looking at things purely from a football perspective Seb can't get out of the way, the Hibs defenders aren't showing great defensive awareness by stepping out and leaving him clearly off and Seb actually does them a favour by blocking a shot on target.

The ball striking Seb's ar*e, after his shoulder has been marginally offside, and dropping some 25 yards from goal where Cameron hits a deflected shot into the back of the net should've stood imo, there was no offside flag, multiple touches and a short passage of play before the flag was raised and I think we should rightly feel aggrieved. We were well in the ascendancy at that point and the VAR call gave Hibs a wake up and a shot in the arm when we deserved to be two goals up. That call saw the teams go different ways and it honestly felt like we'd lost a goal such was the deflation.

It seems like they're desperate to find ways to rule goals out than to rule them in.

As much as we deserved and wanted the goal to count, it was offside Rev and as the old cliche goes, if it was against us we’d have been fuming.

The linesman did actually flag after the phase of play had finished (ball hit the net).

Bad luck on our part but the correct decision.

One final thing @Reverend Lovejoy offside isn't subjective with VAR, it's totally objective.

Until it involves either of the cheeks of course then that might change.

Is every goal checked (I'm not sure it is) or does someone somewhere decided whether it should be checked?. Someone's forming the opinion that goals might not necessarily be legitimate and there's where the subjective part comes in. Yesterday's VAR call was extremely harsh and the goal should've been allowed to stand.

Hibs players claimed for it as soon as it hit SPH and the flag also went up - I'd imagine that's enough to justify a check. Worth noting that SPH didn't celebrate the goal so obviously felt he was offside.

I get where you're coming from but the goal was correctly disallowed.

The flag didn't go up until Lyle's shot hit the back of the net. At the game it didn't appear that people were expecting it to be called off but then obviously VAR intervened. Should've stood imo.

Yes every goal is checked.  The flag went up, the VAR call was to confirm the on field decision of offside.  The only way the goal would not have stood was if VAR determined SPH was not offside, but he was.

The flag went up for the original shot, but it was delayed until the “goal” was scored.

It also would have gone up if the deflection off the Hibs player had put it wide.

It was the correct decision. I’m not sure what makes you think it wasn’t?

Not going to discuss any further. What I will say though is I kind of admire your dark blue tinted view of the incident.

Nothing to do with a dark blue tinted view I just disagree with the decision given the margins. I've disagreed with loads of offside/VAR calls both for and against us, one that springs to mind was in a DAB game at Tannadice which was much more obvious from a VAR point of view (It was actually a penalty being awarded) but still an outrageous call. We seem to be accepting a lack of common sense from people who've never kicked a ball to determine the outcome of games of football.
