Our Style of Play under TD

Recommended Posts

I don't think this has been mentioned enough but our style of play under Tony Docherty is a real triumph. It's the best football I have seen Dundee playing since the Bonetti era. I know I have missed out Hartley's sides. They were good too but I feel our style now is so exciting.

When McCowan, Cameron, Sylla, Larkeche, Tiffoney and others start linking up with short, sharp, quick passes it's stunning. It started to happen more down the left later in the game yesterday after Robertson came on. Lots of quick triangular type passing on the wing and then a quick low ball into the box.

I've seen this in every game this season. It's in our DNA now and obviously something TD has been coaching.

We are a fast short passing side at our best in attack. Obviously we mix this up with long balls out from the keeper, which saves us from playing out from the back. And some long balls from defence. It's a good contrast.

Add to that the pressing from the front three and the work rate throughout the side.

On the subject of long balls. The one negative from yesterday was that many long passes were over hit. Not only from BK but quite a few other passes, corners and free kicks. Something to work on. Onwards and upwards.

Really enjoy watching us play. Thought when we appointed Doc that we might be more like a typical McInness side but we haven’t and I’m glad because I don’t think that style would be getting the best out of the players we have.

Absolutely, I thought that too. It's nothing like a McInnes style. And it's also nothing like a Calum Davidson style.

We have been on the end of a couple of hidings from the uglies but I can honestly say that we are a pleasure to watch.

Yes, not pretty. The last game v Rangers at Dens was solid though. Also the first half v Celtic at Dens around New Year. Hopefully TD knows we need two DMs for those games and backs staying further back. No all out 3 5 2 attack.

It 100% looks like coached ability here.

Players who didn't look this style under previous managers looking alot better. It looks like he is a proper coach. You can see he improved players and makes them a hard working unit.

If you look at teams outside the big 3 or 4 who have won things in the previous few years its always this style.

Hard working players making a unit with some flair here or there. It's never loads of superstars.

Could this be the year.

Yes, agree. Hardworking, team spirit, the right personalities, no prima donnas, good tactics, plus the right style and some flair...

The quick passing on the wings, particularly the left then the quick low ball into the box is almost our set play...

!00% agree. Hadn't got to this topic so posted in "disallowed goal" a very similar opinion.

Again, I'm gonna give TD, most of the credit, for what I see as the improved performances, from the DFC Players.

They can recognise in him a Professional Coach who knows the business. He has belief in himself & his players.

This in turn (imo) reflected in their improving, tireless, perfomances.  (Shown up well in last 15mins agaist Hibs)

THIS SEASON IT APPEARS WHILE OPPOSITION SEEM TO FALTER/TIRE...DFC ARE STILL UP FOR THE FIGHT:chaplin:

SEEMS OUR FITNESS HAS REACHED A WHOLE NEW LEVEL. GREAT STUFF FROM PLAYERS & DFC COACHES :happyyes:
