Other than mcalister there hasn't been too many shouts for any of the freed players to stay. Letheren is possibly stronger than Mitchell however imo the guys coming in are better than the ones going out although they still have to prove it.

I see a younger, fitter, harder working team hopefully.

I can still see Hartley trying to move on the likes of ferry and Roberts and loan out the likes of allan, colquhoun, kerr, black and carreiro. These lads will find it difficult to get regular football with us right now and reserve football is no use at this stage.

I wonder if there might be one more addition if we can move players out on loan or permanently in Roberts and ferry's case. If so I think Hartley will go for a wide player.

I really wish Roberts would knuckle down and at least try and fight for a place in the team. He has the potential and the ability to go further. Watched the highlights of the game against Celtic where we drew 1-1 and Roberts showed why PH had put faith in him.

Would love to see him out on the right, with Hemmings in the middle and Stewart on the left. Has all the ability, just a shame his attitude did match half of that.

We definitely look stronger on paper I would say, especially attacking wise as I think loy and Hemmings will score a lot of goals between them.

I think we should still maybe try and bring in a winger as I fear we will be lacking width again.

The defence looks decent enough although we just don't know if Holt, Julen or Meggett will be able to step up, plus we're still missing a dominant and commanding centre half.

Overall though if we manage to keep a balanced and regular starting 11 then we could do well.

Ps... If and it's a big if, say Ferry and Roberts actually perform and do well then it would be like 2 new signings.

I'm not writing anybody off for the coming season.

Si Ferry is a far, far better player than he showed last season. As is Roberts.

They are in the last chance saloon though and they need to understand that. Neither will go on to bigger clubs than Dundee ever again if they fail to make an impact this season.

Anything can happen in Football and it's entirely possible that either one of these lads, or even both, may go on to have a great second season with us!

They'll both be hurting and wanting a clean slate.. It's crucial for them both to take their opportunity when it arrives.

As far as the rest of the squad goes, I am delighted with PH's close season business.

As has already been said, we'll be fielding a younger, hungrier side this season.

Lack of experience is may be the worry now??

Canna wait for the season to start  :excited:

I think Holt could well turn out to be an inspired signing. Meggatt looks like he's got the skills and the physique to be a real asset. Hopefully he is as keen as mustard to prove himself. JEL is the real unknown quantity I suppose.. Surely PH wouldn't be offering him a three year deal if he didn't think he was the real deal?

Not to forget Big Kosta - Desperate for him to do well. Hopefully he really kicks on this season.

Cant ever remember us ever having the options that we have at the back this season!

McPake

Konrad

Kosta

Irvine

McGinn

Holt

Meggatt

JEL

IMO it will come down to if Loy and Hemmings can lead the line and score goals in SPL.

Not convinced that we won't be left with similar shortfalls last year of no width and no dominant CH to play beside mcpake

If Holt replaces Dyer then we have to hope that meggat or Spaniard can replace the limited Konrad.

Low and J Mac will be quite similar lime for like.

I think the standard of fringe player will have improved but not convinced our general starting XI will be much stronger.

Like I said if the front 2 crack it then we have a chance to push on.

Your summing up is exactly, what I think, just a pity we didn't sign, as you say a "dominant and commanding centre half"

I'm thinking that mcpake will be partnered by meggatt to begin with. Obviously if Holt is missing then meggatt would switch to left back.

I think jel, gadz and konrad in that order will step in, depending on form obviously.

Paper teams win paper cups.

For me there are a few worrying areas, we seem to lack presence in the midfield and again are lacking pace and width. Hemmings has a bit of speed about him and from memory Holt is ok too but that's about it. I'm worried as a result of the lack of stature in the middle we may get bullied.

Signing championship/lower league players is always a gamble and we just need to hope we hit a decent success level on these, especially those on 3 year deals.

All in all I think it's going to be a case of suck it and see on the opening day v Killie and see what we are like.

Agreed... We do seem to have a collection of oompa loompa's in the middle of the park.

Ya Ya Toure would be welcomed with open arms :)

Potentially, the squad is light years more stronger than anything else I have seen at Dens in years.  Potentially.

I'm a tad concerned that there is also the potential for PH taking a few games before he figures out his strongest team.  I hate tinkering with the team, especially at this level and 'squad rotation' is best left for FIFA 15 or Championship Manager imo.

We could have a strong squad and it looks like Ross and Stewart may be the ones to give us the width, backed up with McGinn and Holt.

We also seem to have a few more attacking options but somehow I can't see PH just dumping the sort of counter attacking game he employed last season.  For instance, I'm not sure I can see Loy, Stewart, Hemmings and Harkins starting many games together.
