Hope the Opening Post (& the two following it) doesn't start a Big Rush of New Members to Happy Clappy Cllub :chin:

As ongoing Self Elected President of the aforementioned, I've got to keep a watchful eye on the current situation ;)

We've now reached the Dizzy Heights of TEN Members (including, my imaginary voices). It's becoming too much :lol2:

Maybe I’m just bored at work, or maybe I’ve been overthinking it after reading some of the comments in other threads, but things are starting to feel a bit negative just now. People are starting to question some of our players and the manager, whether it’s justified or not.

Anyway, while scrolling through some news pages, I came across that famous Shankly quote, and it got me thinking, reminiscing, actually and I ended up typing this out. If the post gets shot down, discussed, whatever, this forum’s a great place for us as fans to share our thoughts.

Bill Shankly once said, "Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." As football fans in general, we know exactly what he means. Football’s in our blood, and supporting this club brings its share of frustration, but is it time we take a step back and see the good things happening right now?

First off, we’ve got the best manager we’ve had in years. He’s not just here to get by, he left a steady position under McCinnes, he’s got a plan, and you can see the difference in our club already in the year he has been here. We’re playing with more fight and fitness than years gone by, more purpose, and we’re actually seeing progress on the pitch.  We were a couple of results away from Europe last season after all and we are 1 point better off at this point this year compared to last year, plus the slightly extended cup-run. It’s no wonder people are talking about us in a different light than in previous years.

And what about the squad? We’ve got players representing the national team at various levels, both for Scotland and around Europe. Whether they’re homegrown or on loan, we’re building a reputation for developing proper talent. That’s not something every club can say, in fact very little in Scotland. We’re not just borrowing players, we’re making them better, and in turn, they’re making us better.

Then there’s the new stadium. I know, we’ve heard it all before, but this time it actually feels like it’s a little bit closer. Watching Dundee in a modern stadium, better facilities, a proper home for the club. It’s not just pie in the sky anymore, it’s starting to feel real. That’s something to be excited about when it happens.

We’ve got to remember how far we’ve come and in a short space of time. A strong manager, talented young players, and the chance of a new stadium, these aren’t small things and not aspects we are really used to at Dundee . Let’s take a step back, stop focusing on the negatives, and give the manager and team the backing it deserves, which most do week in and week out, home and away.

The future’s looking a lot better than it has in a long time and there’s plenty to be positive about, so let’s stick together, get behind the manager and the team and enjoy the ride.  It's always going to be a slightly bumpy one as a Dee.

I'm worried as we look worse and weaker from last season

Hopefully Fraser and Robertson come in and make a difference

Hate to think we will be closer to play off than top 6

Hopefully we get a decent result on sat somebody has to beat the dons

We were always going to be a bit weaker after losing our best two players last season (McCowan and Beck).  Not having either Shaughnessy and Robertson hasn't helped either.

What I don't get is the worry about being closer to the play off place.  Not yet anyway.  I'd say only Aberdeen look improved from last season, St Mirren probably about the same level so will be top 6 I think.  of the rest, Hibs, Motherwell, St Johnstone and County don't look to have improved much,  Killie have been poorer but will probably improve now they're out of Europe and Hearts look awful but a new manager may change that.  United have started well but don't look like they'll score a lot of goals.

I think we'll be in the mix for top 6 but might miss out.  We'll have a better idea where we stand after the first round of fixtures, after which I reserve the right to change my mind and start panicking.

Next week it’s Killie who desperately need a result, in their shoes you would love to meet Dundee. It’s the kind of game that we normally bottle, we can’t screw this up.

I was just thinking that earlier.  A team struggling for results, without a win all season, coming to Dens.  We all know what usually happens there.

On the other hand, any team who concedes 3 to that United team can be got at defensively.
