Now, I have a lot of time for Alex Thomson of Channel 4 News after he was prepared to ask the questions the West Coast media didn't during the Rangers debacle. That's why I'm more disappointed than angered at his latest piece.

Specifically:

Eighty odd miles north east and we are outside the grim box that is Dens Park, home of Dundee FC. Another stadium. Another banned reporter.

First of all, why the unnecessary description of the stadium? Second, if he'd checked his facts, he'd have seen the dispute with Jim Spence was resolved and we now permit all journalists access to Dens (AFAIK).

I think also the article misses a huge issue - journalists who report blatant lies. We saw this in The Courier last season when they inaccurately reported our accounts. Why shouldn't a business be within their rights to ban a journalist or whole organisation that prints potentially damaging stories, based on untruths?

If we don't like what a reporter has written we should communicate directly with them to try and resolve it and if necessary release a statement of our own. Banning the media is petty, embarrassing and counter-productive. We're not in North Korea. We have a free press in this country. If lies are printed we should be speaking to newspaper owners or the PCC.

Why the unnecessary dig at the stadium? I imagine it has something to do with the unnecessary ban. If you issue stupid bans you're going to turn the media against you.

"We British value free speech and a robust media as fundamental to our democracy"

FAF :lol2:

Free speech yes.. Robust would certainly not be my description of the UK media.

The UK written press have become an almost hated section of society.

Their complete linability to display any morales, ethics or self-governance never ceases to amaze me.

Or suing the organisation if we're that sure. I agree with the tone of your post though Cobra. Without know the whole story, the whole Jim Spence 'thing' was embarrassing.
