Paul Hartley Resigns

Yeah that one scared you, eh? ;)

But if we were to suddenly lose Paul Hartley for whatever reason such as Celtic punting Deila for their poor performance this season, who would you theoretically want us to be looking at? Someone within the club like Eddie Johnson or McCabe? An ex-manager like Duffy or Smith? An up and coming manager such as Ian Murray? Push the boat out for someone like Alex Neil (If possible?) A manager that's been out the game for a bit Calderwood or Stuart McCall? Someone from down South - Lockwood? Or an untested future manager such as Neil McCann whom is being touted as Jim Jefferies successor at Dunfermline.

Reason I ask this question is because if Paul Hartley were to leave the club it'd feel like our momentum would be killed stone dead, there'd be a flatness round the club so what kind of name could pick you up off the ground again?

Thankfully this topic is only theoretical and hopefully Hartley's at the club for a long time to come!

Had me going there. Chunt!

The Hartley model. A youngish ex player who has had some 'success' managing in the lower leagues. Wants to play football, has experience playing both sides of the border. Capable of bringing fresh ideas to the club. Not much to ask? Having said that I wouldn't say no to Stuart McCall. But we must push the boat to keep PH

I hope we never return to the days of hiring managers simply because they were popular Dundee players in the past.

I think we'd want to try to replicate the appointment of Hartley if there is someone similar available. First thing should be that he's done a few years in management and shown some aptitude for the job.

If things go the way we all hope then there's a fair chance PH will be on his merry way at some point, hopefully as Van Gaal's replacement we're doing that well. My big fear is that whoever we get to replace him won't be big enough to go with the successful model and want to do his own thing instead. We're not a big enough club to automatically get 'top' staff (playing and non playing) so we rely on good judgement or luck the same as most of the rest of the clubs in Scotland. Every now and then a club goes on a good run but that good run gets the bigger boys circling and picking off the talent. Its where we are unfortunately but I'd take a cup win and a European run and the loss of a great management team.

This probably comes across as pessimistic, I can see it myself but I think this would be as good as it gets for us.  :(
