Konrad

Did we not learn last season that the German shouldn't be asked to mark the opposition's most dangerous forward (e.g. Griffiths, Ciftci, Rooney)?

Twice in the last few days we've conceded the opening goal because Konrad can't protect our six yard box.

Surely if the other team have a prolific goalscorer McPake has to be picking him up.

The problem with 3 CHs is that you can end up with too many defenders and nobody actually defending, it tends towards no designated markers and laziness creeps in. The boy El Bakhtaoui was able to run the channels easily. There was also huge gaps between the 3 because they were spread so wide.

Konrad really does need to toughen up though. Tidy player but doesn't know when he really needs to foul. Likewise Holt.

Far too naive.

Problem is Mcpake might not have the pace to man mark a lot of these players. Against the likes of the Turk then yes McPake is the nan for the job but against the likes of Griffiths he would be ripped apart.

Fair point BJS. Maybe McPake isn't the answer but we need to have one centre-back with the jumping and marking ability to handle good strikers when decent crosses come in.

I actually thought our problems in defence would stop us winning a cup this season but I didn't think it would cost us in the first round.

Mcpake and Julen are the strongest centre half pairing that we have at Dens. There's no doubt about it in my mind.

Tam's a likeable player but his nasty habit of going to sleep at the wrong moment cost us dear last season and has again already this term.

Cobra has been saying this for a while now tbf and I'm sorry to say that I am now beginning to agree with him.  I like Konrad a lot and I think he is a fine, solid player.  He puts in challenges and has saved us a good few times.  Having said that, defending is his job and these attributes are a bare minimum for a defender at this level.  Can he sharpen up in these one on one situations in the box because 'going to sleep' sums it up perfectly for me.  He is just not reading the situation and the danger as quickly as the opposing strikers are.
