Chairman Bill Colvin has issued a call to arms to all Dundee fans to come along for Saturday’s Scottish Cup clash with Aberdeen at Dens Park and support Paul Hartley’s team.

Colvin would really love a big turnout of Dees and believes, if he gets one, it can help the new-look team to an important victory and a possible Scottish Cup run this season. He reckons a massive home support would be just reward for all those players who’ve performed exceptionally well so far this season.

“I think it’s fair to say we are watching the best Dundee team we’ve all seen for years — their style of football is really entertaining†said Colvin. “This Saturday, I’d love to see our fans turn out in bigger numbers than the travelling support from Aberdeen. The way they have been playing, I think our players deserve that.

“We’ve also got Scotland international player David Clarkson trying to extend his record-equalling run of seven goals in his first seven games so far for the club — and that’s worth turning up to see as well.â€

And he believes the club’s recent history shows a big turnout of Dees could mean the difference between success and failure on the day.

“On that momentous final day of last season, we had a sell-out at Dens against Dumbarton. Our support that day were all truly magnificent and I believe their passion and enthusiasm got us over the line in that very tight and exciting promotion race.â€

Season tickets are not valid for the tie and live BBC coverage means the game will have a lunch-time kick off. Traditionally, that would have an effect on the gate but the chairman is hoping home fans can buck the trend.

If the fans do turn out in great numbers, any extra income will be used to strengthen the squad further.

Despite stretching the playing budget to bring in the likes of Clarkson, the Dens board want to give manager Paul Hartley the opportunity to strengthen when the January transfer window opens.

“Paul has put together an excellent squad of committed and talented players but, as a club, we do not want to stand still.

“We all want to keep improving and give our manager all the help we possibly can. “By turning up at Dens on Saturday, the fans can play their part in that process. “I appreciate it’s close to Christmas and immediately follows the Black Friday shopping day. But what better way to follow Black Friday than with a ‘Dark Blue Saturday’!â€

It is but there is still a lot who wont pay the gate price because it is so early in the cup, even though its a big game.

A cup run would be fantastic for the club.
