I know I've bored some of you guys to death regarding my book set in Dundee during WW1 -

However, as I am getting into my last edit I was looking for an alternate title (As some feel "The *** of All Small Boys" might be viewed as too theistic or aimed at a male readership)

I wanted to check out some WW1 poetry for alternate titles... and this jumped out...

4th Battalion The Black Watch and The Battle of Loos - 25th September 1915. OOR GALLANT FOURTH

Lads o' valour, lads o' grit,
Lads wha's frames are strongly knit,
Lads wha strike hard whom they hit,
Are in the Fourth.

The 'Great Push' found them tae the fore,
Like their sires in days of yore.
'Marmalade!' Eh, what a roar!
Cam" frae the Fourth.

They cared not for the rifles' spit,
They were oot tae dae their bit,
They've proved that they are lads o' grit,
Oor gallant Fourth.

'On the ba', Dundee', they cried
They as steel in fire were tried,
Nobly lived and nobly died,
Lads o' the Fourth.

When o' wordly cares I'm free,
And I've crossed the 'sullen sea',
Weel tae the fore I ken I'll see
Lads o' the Fourth.

The People's Journal, 16 October 1915

This poem has led to this passage...

‘Do you understand, Son?’ James realised he had not heard his father’s last words, but he still nodded his head a little and mumbled a small ‘yes’ under his breath.

‘And what do we say?’ his father’s mouth gave the smallest of smiles.

“On the ba’, Dundee!†James replied. The words sounded odd as he tried to smile through his tears.

Great find ! I have a magazine pullout from the Courier with those pics in it Joe, which contains a mention of the poem. Unfortunately it's falling to pieces and I'm hoping that the Courier will publish extracts in the coming months.

What's the first book called Joe? I'm very interested as would be my father in law even if he is a dab ;)

It's title (At the moment) is "The *** of All Small Boys".

It's not quite Dab friendly as at one point two wee boys are throwing insults at each other and one calls the other a Dundee Hibernian Supporter

Which ends the argument with both boys bursting into giggles, as such an idea is obviously laughable!

Once (IF) it ever makes it to a publisher, don;t worry.. I'll be making sure the WORLD will know about it! :)

(If anyone out there happens to know a publisher and/or literary agent, then by all means gimme a shout!  :)  )
