Never regained consciousness after being struck by a bouncer. Complete freak accident.

Could this lead to a change in the rules of cricket?

Terrible news and one that has hit everyone involved with cricket hard. However it won't and shouldn't lead to any change in rules. Every professional sportsman knows the risks involved in his/her sport. A bouncer is used once an over, sometimes no times, as a method of un settling the batsman. The fact that Hughes has been hit in one of the only places that would of killed him is an absolute tragedy but there will be no changes.

No doubt people will argue the other case but they clearly haven't played much cricket.

Please also spare a thought for young Shaun Abbot - the bowler of the ball. Just doing his job, which is is bloody good at, and this happens. Some say he will never play cricket again. So sad

Hughes was actually playing a pull shot and takes a blow to just above the neck. Grills of the helmet only cover the front of the face. Maybe a change in design required.

As for the bowler will be very difficult for him to get over this.

Any change in design will restrict movement. You may as well just cover the entire body like a catcher at baseball if that is the case
