Back when Maradona was still playing, the big question was who was better him or Pele. There may be other contenders now adays but for me it was always Pele, his demeanor on and off the park also make him the perfect ambassador for the game.

Pele for me. Maradona was fantastic but i have to agree with KiwiDee, Pele just shades it.

Same debate with Messi, Maradonna and Pele. The thing with Maradonna and Pele was that they played at a time when some brutal tackles went unpunished. They were still brilliant player despite some opposition players kicking the sh*t out of them. 

Messi, who is also brilliant, plays at a time were they are so protected. Opposition cannot be too agressive. They will probably get booked if they shake his hand too tight at the start of the game!?!?

For me the order is  -

1. Pele    2.Maradonna . 3.Messi   4 Gary Harkins

Not to take anything away from Pele, but does anyone remember Garrincha ?           Another one of the greats in Brazilian Football.

Garrincha, was just slightly before my time although, after searching for his career details I was surprised to learn that .. He had several birth defects: his spine was deformed, his right leg bent outwards and his left leg was six centimeters shorter and curved inwards, none of which impeded his ability to play football at the highest level.

Not bad for someone with 50 Brazil caps !
