Are We Going Backwards

Just watched the "highlights" there and tragically wasn't that shocked at what I witnessed.

Last November we went to Celtic park, had a bit of a go at them and lost, arguably unluckily, 2-1. We created chances, Thomson bossed the midfield until he went off and Clarkson caused problems up top. Add that to the 1-1 game at Dens where I think you could argue we turned in one of the best performances we have under PH and we were giving a good account of ourselves.

However over the last 4 games (cup and league at Dens and 2 at Parkhead) we have pretty much meekly rolled over and been handed out backsides. What's changed? Have Celtic got much better? Have we got much worse? Are the tactics all wrong? I genuinely don't know is the answer.

Btw this is a more general comment using the Celtic games as a bench mark more than anything else, for the avoidance of doubt I don't expect us to be beating Celtic but would like to understand how we've gone from competing to capitulation within 11 months.

Had to turn it off after the third goal.

The defending was slapstick, the midfield toothless and the attack bereft of any imagination. It was like we were in awe of Celtic. We were caught ball watching time and again.

If it wasn't for Bain, we'd be looking at one of the worst results in our history. Like a few other posters, I'd prefer it if we rolled up our sleeves, got stuck in and at least made it a little bit uncomfortable for them. However, that was like Barcelona playing Brechin. On FIFA. On beginner mode.

Something has to give.

We did really well in the first two games where Celtic were maybe still getting used to Deila's methods. Every game against them in 2015 has been horribly one-sided. If we're looking for excuses we could say injuries hurt us at the end of last season. Yesterday you could see the Celtic players knew each other's game inside out. They were playing with a lot of confidence. We're building a new team with guys like Low, Hemmings and Ross so confidence maybe drains when we come up against a complete team like Celtic firing on all cylinders. Throw in some suicidal tactics and we're lambs to the slaughter.

No, we're not going backwards. Am I embarrassed at getting pumped 6-0? Absolutely. The stark reality is that with the players at celtics disposal, if they turn it on and have a good day, they can pump anyone in the top flight for 6. Forget this result, and try and continue to build on a decent start to the season

It was last year's defence we played. It wasn't good enough last year and not good enough this year against quick attackers.

Have mentioned this another post, but Low/Irvine doubled up well 1st half. But the McGinn/Stewart combination on right wing didn't work. Neither full backs good enough defenders in their own right.

I can't bring myself to watch the highlights. I'm going to write that game off in the hope that we'll learn from it and make changes. Just don't know how much we've really developed since last season. We finished the season in dismal form and apart from a couple of good games this year we've looked really inconsistent. When our defence is bad, it's really appalling and we shouldn't be shipping 6 goals against any team in the league, including Celtic. I don't think our defensive performances are good enough in any game, and without Bain we'd be in a lot worse shape generally. Do we need to bring in a specialised defensive coach with a good pedigree to drill our existing guys into shape, and help identify higher quality players for January?

The reality is, Celtic should be beating us at home every day of the week with the squad they have compared to ours.

Just not 6-0 or in that manner.

Are we going backwards? Big picture wise no.

Last season was our first top 6 top flight finish in a decade. We sit 6th after 8 games.

The disappointing thing for me is we all got excited after the first 2 or 3 performances and have struggled in a lot of games since.

I know it's very early doors but the goal difference going from plus 3 to minus 3 in a game has really p*ssed me off too. Goal difference is as good as a point league placing wise.

We showed earlier in the season that we could look a force attacking wise when pressing teams and playing with confidence. Defence has looked shaky all season.

Back to a basic 4-4-2 like a lot of fans have been screaming for for weeks and show a bit more ambition in games and we will become more watchable again which will raise confidence on and off the park.

This sitting in trying to contain football really isn't for me and it clearly isn't working in a number of games.

Hartley hasn't improved us much from last season and he's still making some dreadful elementary tactical errors. I think mid table safety is as far as he'll take us, and he'll do that easily enough thanks to some poor sides below us. That might be enough for the BoD and some of the support. He's too naive to win anything.

Yesterday needed an astute manager and a cynical second half. Nick Ross and the full backs struggling badly was particularly painful to watch. They just couldn't physically cope and that's when managers need to help players, not foolishly expecting it to suddenly work somehow.

You have to know when, and how, to batten down the hatches as a manager. Hartley doesn't. The worst result in our history against the filth could have easily been eclipsed by the worst result in our entire history yesterday. Both performances were down to Hartley's inability to react to what was happening in front of him. I don't think even the players could believe he didn't change things at half time when it was clear that we were going to get a hammering.

Some of his tactical decisions this season have been plain stupid.

Pretty much how I see it.

A dont think we`ll go down under PH and i dont think we`ll ever set the world on fire either.

We`ll get hammered like yesterday then scrape a 1 nil the following week, - is that enough for dees?

Problem i have is i actually think we`re pretty brutal to watch and it reflects on us fans , aberdeen away was the quietest ive heard dees in such a long long time esp for a good away day like that.

Everything just feels flat at DFC , going through the motions etc

Isn't being mid-table in the top tier what we dreamed about during the dark days after admin 1?

Taking the odd hammering and scrapping for 1-0 wins is as good as it gets for a Scottish club of our size. If we are a stable club that avoids relegation for a few years eventually we'll get the breaks and end up at Hampden and in Europe.

Giving up on Hartley and chasing the impossible dream will put us back in the Championship.

Think we`re entiled to dream cobra.

Think we`re entiled to get some good attacking football.

I honestly think money on wages could have been used alot better , wouldnt mind more flair , pace,  grit n strengh in the side

Think we`re a weak slow laboured team generally.

Bear in mind im not anti PH - i voted him best manager in my dee following time , im calling it as i see it , fans arent turning up for games , the away days have been quitest in a long time - i think it tells you something.
