Dundee are keeping a close eye on the fitness of defender Julen Etxabeguren and midfielder Paul McGowan.

Both were absent from the Dark Blues matchday 18 for the 6-0 hammering at Celtic Park at the weekend.

And the duo are rated as doubtful for the clash with Ross County at Dens Park on Saturday.

The club’s medical staff are set to run the rule over the duo this week.

And, while Julen will be given the week to prove his fitness, the club are believed to hopeful on the availability of McGowan.

The 27-year-old was touch and go for the Parkhead clash on Sunday but could be set to boost manager Paul Hartley’s options for Saturday.

And given the players’ performance last weekend, Paul may well turn to McGowan to bolster his midfield.

Either way the gaffer says he’s expecting a reaction from his players, especially in front of their own fans.

“I think the players know that wasn’t good enough at Celtic,†said Paul.

“We need to make sure we go again.

“We have to regroup and move forward.

“We went there with a game plan.

“The players had worked on playing a certain way all week in training and unfortunately they just didn’t deliver at all.

“It has had a wee bit of a negative impact on the goal difference.

“That is one of the most disappointing things.â€
