Hi and welcome to this weeks Friday Darkblues show!

Tonight we are going to start of with a classic, this has been one of my all time favourite songs. This is like dying and going to guitar heaven. This band have had their fair share of tragedies and are still going today.

Formed in 1966 under the name of 'The Pretty Ones' down in Jacksonville, Florida. These are good ole southern boys that had a few name changes The Noble Five and One Percent, before they came up with the name that got them global recognition. Well know for their live gigs and southern flag waving.

As I said, there have been a few deaths in this band and the bands surviving members got together for a reunion in 1987 and then reformed in 1999 with the younger brother of the lead singer who died in a plane crash in 1977, in which 6 members of the band, crew and management died.

This band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13, 2006 and are still going strong to this day. 48 years on the road....

This song, is a classic and up there with Stairway to heaven, Smoke on the water, Paranoid, Bohemian rhapsody and is instantly recognisable when it's intro plays that Hammond organ riff, followed by the harmony guitars building up into blistering solo's.

Enjoy!

Kia ora

If we're going down the Southern rock road here's a wee favourite of mine.

Molly Hatchet - Boogie no more. had a misleading album cover, looked like a metal band, in reality southern boogie.
