Gillie Congrats For Clarky

Following his goal at Celtic last weekend, David Clarkson became the first player in the clubs history to score in each of his first seven matches. In doing so he also equaled Alan Gilzean’s post-war record of scoring in consecutive games and sits two behind the all time record of nine, set by Johnny Bell in 1920.

This week, ‘Gillie’ contacted club director Bob Hynd to pass on his congratulations to David. The Dundee legend passed on his best wishes and said “It would be great if he could now go on and beat the previous record set by Johnny Bell in 1920s, of 9 games in a row. He has my best wishes and I hope that he can carry on to score 10 in a row and create a new record.”

In 1963 when Gillie set the post-war record he also scored in every round of the Scottish Cup as Dundee went on the feature in the final of the tournament. Alan also passed on his best wishes to Paul Hartley and the rest of the players for this year’s tournament, saying he hopes they can progress this Saturday and have a really good cup run.

Some say Bobby Cox, some say Doug Cowie, some say Billy Steel, some say Jocky Scott and so on but for me, Alan Gilzean is most legendary player ever to play for the Dark Blues and his goal scoring stats for us were nothing short of phenomenal.

He played long before my time but just read in awe every time the great man speaks about DFC.
