Paul Mcgowan Injury Blow For Dundee

Dundee are hopeful James McPake will be fit to start this weekend’s clash with Motherwell.

But the Dark Blues have been dealt a blow with the news Paul McGowan will face up to five weeks on the sidelines with a foot injury.

Central defender McPake took a knock from Ross County frontman Liam Boyce last weekend and has been suffering with discomfort in his jaw.

While there is no damage, boss Paul Hartley is reluctant to risk McPake unnecessarily with an international break just around the corner.

He said: “We will have to see how he is. We won’t play him if he is still feeling it.â€

The news on McGowan is not so positive. An initial scan on his injured ankle showed no break but having sought a second opinion, another scan revealed a fracture.

“McGowan will be out another three or four weeks,†he said. “He has a fracture in his foot.â€

Fellow-midfielder Nicky Low will also miss out, along with long-term injury victim Kosta Gadzhalov.

’Well come to Dens without a permanent manager and Stephen Craigan at the helm as caretaker.

Hartley thinks that’s a bonus for the visitors rather than a hindrance.

“He knows the club very well,†he said. “They had a good result last week.

“But it doesn’t matter who is in charge of the team, players should play to the best of their ability. They use it as an excuse sometimes.â€
