Kilmarnock Will Be Desperate To Avenge Early Dundee Drubbing

Dundee forward Rory Loy blew Kilmarnock away with a debut double on the opening day.

But he’s taking nothing for granted when they visit Dens Park this time around.

Killie take on the Dark Blues today and, while Loy is confident his side can record yet another victory over Gary Locke’s men, he thinks it will be seriously harder than at Rugby Park on the first day of the season.

Back in August, a quickfire Loy brace was added to by a pair of crackers from Greg Stewart to shock the top-flight with a remarkable first-day result.

With that in mind, Loy says he thinks Killie, who are a much tougher prospect these days, will be out for revenge.

“The last game will have a bearing on this one, I’m sure,†said the five-goal striker.

“I know if we had been beaten that comfortably it would be in my mind.

“I’d be desperate to avenge it. As a result, they will come out all guns blazing.

“I know if it was our manager he would be telling us to get in their faces and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“That’s definitely something we are going to have to be ready for.â€

It’s fair to say the Dark Blues have yet to replicate the performance that day in Ayrshire.

Rory Loy bagged a brace the last time the two sides met.

Loy says the side are definitely capable, it’s just that maybe teams have become wise to their style of play.

“It was a good start,†said the striker.

“The funny thing about the start of the season is every team has a little bit of swagger about them.

“The thing is you go out there, having not seen anything of the team you are playing, and think ‘this is the way we are going to play’.

“You don’t study teams like you do now at this point of the season.

“We did our thing and they did their’s. It worked for us on the day. Every pass we played that day worked.â€

The former Rangers, Falkirk and Carlisle United attacker, continued: “Maybe as the season has gone on we have found it not so easy to play.

“Space has been a lot harder to find in the forward areas.

“That’s just because teams and managers have the chance to work out the way you play and how best to stop you.

“Just because we have not played as well since does not mean we are not capable of hitting those heights again.

“We are. It’s just that teams have got wise to it and make it more difficult.â€

After such a cracking opening to life in dark blue, things took a turn for the worse with Loy. As had been the case with him towards the end Falkirk’s Championship campaign, injury struck.

He says maybe he was too quick to rush back from it and that’s why he’s not started games as much as he, or the manager, would have liked.

“Things weren’t quite right for me. I got off to a great start but I knew I shouldn’t have played in the derby,†said Loy.

“I didn’t do myself, the club or the fans justice with that performance personally.

“The hardest thing was then having to tell myself to take a break.

“It’s been great, though. The rest has done me the world of good.

“I feel like I have come back, especially in the last two or three games, a stronger player for it. I have always believed I can play at this level.

“Maybe other people have not been so sure.

“I do think with my performances I am slowly proving to everyone that the top flight is where I belong.

“I haven’t proven it yet. To do that I have to keep my head down and do this over a full season.

“A few more goals would help along the way.â€
