I'd give consideration to most players on that list tbh. It depends more on who we're keeping on and how we're allocating the budget between experience and youthfulness.

The big target for me has to be on at least two proper physical defensive midfielders. Thomson may be leaving (or if he does stay it will be in a reduced role I imagine) and although we have a couple of players who can get stuck in (McGowan and Low), we do miss a presence to help our defence. Draper, Osman and McGowan could all fit the bill out of that list.

I have been thinking about lower league players who fit that sort of description and I can't really find many who would be available right now who I can see stepping up. Dumbarton have Grant Gallagher who has been very good for them but he'll be 25 by the time the season starts and although it looks like he has the legs, I don't know how much of a competitor he is. Will Vaulks extended his Falkirk deal to 2017 so he's very unlikely (but he'd be the perfect signing).

Calder will likely be off so will be looking for a wide player with a bit of pace. Doran is out of contract but also suffering from a long term injury (cruciate ligament I think) so that might work against him. Rory McKenzie from Killie would maybe be an option but he's a bit hot and cold (to be honest, what wingers in Scotland aren't?!) and I think compensation would be required if Killie want to keep him. Aidan Connolly from United wouldn't have the compensation issue (given he's not their youth player) but I don't really rate him as a player (although he gives a bit of pace). The only other option I can see is Imrie and he's actually a pretty good player (although I hate him) so could actually be an astute piece of business.

A centre back might be needed (if the players we have don't show much improvement and we don't renew Konrad or Gadzhalov's deal) and from that list, Steven Anderson from St Johnstone jumps out at me. Will be 30 in the summer and has been a consistent figure in the team with one of the best defences in the league over a period of time. Not a fancy or exciting player but might offer something a bit different and he's mastered the improvements. Seaborne is also a bit like that.

Ross Draper is the type of Centre Mid we need. Stuart Bannigan possibly? Not exactly the most physical of players but could improve our midfield.

Pity Will Vaulks contract isn't up till next year, very good player.

We need to widen the search well beyond that list IMO..

Big, strong and skillfull defensive midfielders and a CH in the same mould from anywhere please..

Edit - They need to be for free as well!

Didn't realise Bannigan was so young. He's a good player (reminds me of a left footed McGowan with a better shot) but only issue is that we have Ross, Low, McGowan, Harkins, Carreiro and Curran who are all central midfielders who are not that defensively orientated.

Looked through the English contracts on that page and noticed this guy. 81 games at Championship level but fell away from that a couple of years ago despite a lot of early hype (if you google his name, you get a lot of Watford forum results talking about how he had so much potential). He's 6ft 2 (according to Crawley Town) and seems to have played most of his football in defensive midfield. Seems a very Inverness type signing.

There is also this boy at Blackburn who had a good loan spell last season at Burton (winning promotion) and seems to fit the sort of player we're looking for. Blackburn seem to rate him and he's represented Ireland at centre back and in defensive midfield at under 21 level. Don't know if Blackburn are going to offer him a new deal or not but their fans seem to really rate him.
