No Excuses For ‘Second Best’ Dundee Says Paul Hartley

Dundee boss Paul Hartley has defended his decision to select an extremely attacking starting XI in defeat to Kilmarnock.

Instead, the gaffer insists there are absolutely no excuses for the performance his players put in during Saturday’s loss.

Paul decided to throw all four of his frontmen into the fray for the Killie clash.

And while it was a brave move it failed to pay off as the visitors dominated the home side until Paul belatedly changed things early in the second period, by which time the Dark Blues were two goals down.

“There were no excuses for that performance — we were very flat on the day,†said Paul.

“We were second to everything apart from maybe the last period of the game.

“It’s simple — you just can’t start games like that and expect to get a result.

“I have no idea why we played the way we did.

“We worked all week on how we wanted to play. So there is no reason for it.

“We just did not play as a team. Almost every player in the side under-performed out there.

“We were second best. The better team won.â€

However, Paul conceded his team were better when he made two personnel changes and a system switch early in the second 45.

“The changes definitely made a difference to our team,†he said.

“We didn’t start playing until about 15-20 minutes to go.

“We could have had a point in the end.

“It was a wonderful save from MacDonald from McGinn at the end but if we look at the whole performance over the 90 minutes we know we were not at our best.â€

Hmmm, maybe I should be an SPL manager, or a trouble shooter, or a consulting detective.  :lol2:
