We Owe Dundee Fans A Good Show In The Highlands

Recommended Posts

Life at Dundee hasn’t been the path paved with gold Nicky Low thought it would be.

Starved of games at Aberdeen, the talented midfielder made the journey south in the summer after being promised increased first-team opportunities at Dens Park.

Paul Hartley has kept to his side of the bargain but, frustratingly, illness and injury has so far robbed Low of the thing he craves most — top-flight starts.

But, having made an impact off the bench last weekend against Kilmarnock, and hopefully his fitness woes behind him, Low is desperate to be involved at Inverness.

“It’s been frustrating for me since I arrived,†he said.

“Game-time was something I came here for and, unfortunately, I have not been able to get as much as I would have liked.

“I really need to get going over the next few weeks.

“When I have been available and selected, I feel like I’ve done OK.

“But there’s still a lot more to come from me.â€

Low, who knows the gaffer well both from his time with the Dons and also following a loan spell under Paul at Alloa, continued: “Fitness has been a big thing for me this season and not in a good way.

“I still feel like I am a wee bit away from where I’d like to be.

“I missed parts of pre-season but I did all of the running, so I don’t think that’s too much of a problem.

“The issues really has been games because of the injury and then the virus.

“Ninety minutes is maybe not in me yet but I need to be ready to do that if the gaffer calls on me.â€

Low admits the performance the players put in against Killie last Saturday was not up to scratch.

And, as a result, he reckons the dressing-room owe the paying punters not only a result but a performance, too.

“We need three points,†he said.

“We let the fans down last week. So, as well as getting a result up there, we owe the fans a performance, especially those who will make the long trip up the road.â€

There’s been a fair bit of negativity on the blue half of the city since last weekend’s disappointing home defeat.

But Low says that’s not something the players are paid to dwell on.

He admits they’ve had their post-mortem of the match and he thinks there are lessons the team can learn from it moving forward.

“It wasn’t good for the first hour or so against Killie,†said Low.

“We could have got back in it at the end but it was clear we left ourselves far too much to do.

“The boys know it wasn’t good enough.

“This week, we have had a bit of a doing in training.

“We all know where we went wrong and we know we must put it right.â€

Caley look far from the team of last season so far this campaign.

But Low doesn’t think that will make Dundee’s task any easier in the Highlands.

He said: “Results haven’t gone well for Inverness at times this season.

“That won’t matter, though.

“We have to be ready for the very best of Inverness.

“I think they will be fired up for the match after losing in the League Cup (against Ross County).

“It will be hard for us but, if we bring the type of performance we are capable of, we will get a result.â€
