Dundee Loan Watch 2015/16

Recommended Posts

Only Wighton is out on loan so far so not a whole lot to report as of yet. Anyways, here's some Raith fans reviews of Wighton after 2 friendlies, not the most encouraging of reading but remember it's only friendlies:

'Is it too early to send Wighton back to Dundee?'

'Wighton was very poor. Everyone else has impressed today though' (This was during today's friendly against Aberdeen)

'Very tidy build up play, but absolutely no firepower up front at all'

'However a real lack of presence upfront is a worry. Wighton was really poor. But I'm sure McKinnon will know this lack of a main front man is a signing we need to add to and make a signing before the season kicks off.'

'Wighton's lack of a goal threat is a worry'

'The less said about Wighton the better. If he had any idea what he was doing at all, he wouldn't have got injured in that incident.'

'Just me that worries that our supporters expectations of Wighton are going to be to the detriment of his progression' (This sounds familiar!)

'Going by Wighton's 2 performances so far, I hope he plays for Dundee in the next friendly'.

'I'm more worried that he's actually just not very good. That young lad (Courts?) made more of a mark in two minutes than Wighton did all game.'

Comments taken from the Raith forum and P&B.

another comment just added there:

Wighton ran about today, didn't do too much but tried to put himself about. But for 60 minutes or so he was chasing down balls being lumped up to him against decent defenders. The lads 17 years old FFS tho k some folk are being harsh on him, he showed glimpses of what he has to offer.

Their team selection had him as the only recognised striker on (well Grant Anderson played there when he was younger but is now used out wide) so I get the feeling that he was pretty isolated and out of his comfort zone.

Just posted on that thread myself - saying basically it'd be pretty daft to expect a 17 year old who's not the biggest - ability or not to look mightily impressive when you're essentially playing him as a target man! That's if they were playing like that though. See what the response is.

Some of those comments are pathetic. The boy has just arrived and is getting to know his new teammates while the manager is going to have to work out how to use him effectively. Give the lad a chance and he'll be a success. He's got a lot to offer for someone so young but to expect him to be the finished article, dominating defences and banging in goals for fun against the likes of Aberdeen is laughable.

Think Wighton really needs to have a bigger presence on the park in general (Not saying he needs to pile on the pounds, just use his body the correct way) as by the sounds of it, he's been bullied too easily in these couple of games and that was my concern with him at Dens as well. Obviously age has a massive part to do with that, but hopefully he can manage to stand his ground more when the real ball comes out for Raith this season.

Think the Raith fans are entitled to their opinion. We may see it as a wee jolly for Wighton that will help him develop, but Raith fans will want him to score goals and help them win games. If he's not playing well they are entitled to say so. He's going there to be a first team player. When he had bad games for us, it's okay for us to put it down to lack of experience and part of his development. It's a different story when he's out on loan though - he'll be expected to produce.

Raith fans are unhappy that he struggled against Aberdeen. The reason he's out on loan is because he's not ready to take on defences of that quality. He looked a real stand-out at Brechin. I reckon he'll do well at Raith once he settles in.

Craig Wighton is not ready to take on this backline?

Storie, Quinn, Rose, Shinnie

2 U20's, there back-up CH and only there first choice LB playing.

That's a worry if that's the case, when will he be ready to take on Aberdeen's youth backline?
