Crowd And Atmosphere At Dens This Saturday

Recommended Posts

Massive game for us on Saturday as has been pointed out from others which can see us go 5th or 10th, both of which will have a massive psychological effect as to how the rest of our season pans out.

Attendances have been poor at Dens this season due to a combination of massive season ticket price increases, lack of entertainment on the park and a poor home record over the last 2 seasons.

Is there any chance we can get a good crowd up (i'm considering anything over 5,000 home fans a good crowd this season since it's been down to the 4,500 mark lately) and a bit of atmosphere and intensity backing or will it be 4,500 home fans in silence for the majority of the game like the last few home games?

Saturday is our only home game of November and is a big one for the club. I fully understand why home crowds are down this season as I said but surely we can put everything aside and get a bigger and more vocal support behind us for this one with it's importance and being the only home game of the month?

Decent crowd, bit of atmosphere and 3 points and all will be good for us again come Saturday evening.

Crowds/atmosphere Is always Catch 22 situation. Teams play better in front of large a positive home support but to get a large positive home support the team needs to play better. Doh!

Agree totally.

I've always edged towards the side of that argument that the if the team plays well then the atmosphere follows.

I just think Saturday is important enough for it to be the other way round and we get an atmosphere and good vocal backing from the off.

Missing this one I"m afraid.

I reckon it will be just under 5k.

Masive game tho, so hopefully the fans will be up for it. Even a hullo hullo when the teams run out would be good. Might be my poor hearing(getting more corned beef the older I get) but rarely hear singing when the teams come out.

After that it's usually pace of the game that decides atmosphere but as long as we get behind the team by voicing encouragement then nobody can have any complaints.

Team selection will dictate atmosphere IMO.

Get Calder on running at the defence with Hemmings in the middle and it will get fans out their seats. A death by 1000 cuts performance of pointless passing around will bore everyone into submission.

Strange thing to say this early in a season but this just feels like an important game

That's it in a nut shell !!    It is a two- way thing.

But, I think the main onus is on the players at the outset, to give the fans something to cheer about.

Go out on to the park with some real purpose and intent. Show you mean business. The fans'll cheer.

Exactly this. Even if the quality isn't 100% spot on, a quick tempo always gets the fans engaged.

Even when we were really struggling under smith when Riley ran at a defender it got folk out their seats

If we start tippy tappying the ball about and playing in front of thistle I think it could be a fairly unpleasant atmosphere at Dens on Sat

I think it's worth pointing out that it works both ways. Yeah we need players to run at the opposition to get the fans out their seats, but we also don't need the groans and booing from the crowd anytime the ball is played backwards!
