Now this one I'm disappointed by. The lad looked first team ready when he came against Motherwell.

He had a few shaky moments, but he actually improved our shape and attitude when he got on the park. The home game against Killie was crying out for what he brought to the 'Well game.

I would see this as PH trying to get him some first team game time, rather than sitting on a bench. To be honest I don't think we are short in the midfield department at the moment and I would suspect that when we have all our midfield players fully fit (I know, pigs will fly before that happens) that Curran will not get on the bench never mind first team place.

Personally, I think it's a good move for the lad as long as he's playing at Montrose. I watched the Salford City v Notts County FA cup tie last night and there was a young player named Hardcastle playing full back (I think) for Salford. He had been loaned to Salford City from the youth system of Blackburn Rovers who are six leagues above non league Salford. He and the rest of his team mates played brilliantly last night to beat Notts County (who are just the four leagues above them)

That young player would likely have taken more from that one game last night to aid his development than half a season playing in the comfort of a youth academy team or even worse sitting on a bench.

Curran's not ready for the first team regularly yet, he's out grown the academy teams and the development games don't provide the competitive edge he needs.

Playing competitive football regularly at Montrose should help to bring him on even further and get him ready to challenge for a first team starting slot at Dens soon enough.

I agree with both your points (Boba and TDB).

However in recent weeks, Calder aside, when we've turned to the bench for options, all that's there are guys who offer nothing different, or simply ain't good enough to change a game.

I've been all for putting youth out on loan and bringing them on, but if we do it with all of them, then we're left with few options, because our midfield is very similar and injury prone.

Other teams in the league seem to be able to bring through youngsters without farming them all out.

That said, with Kerr, Wighton, Black, Carriero, Curran out on loan to get experience, (and Colquhoun whose injured, I believe?) are we on the verge of a very good young side?

We've got a couple of very good young CH's in Matty Allen and Ben Priest as well..

Not to mention young Josh Skelly who has been banging in the goals at development level.

Great to see so many young Dark Blues giving us options for the future.

We just need the first team to step it up mate.

Carriero is a player I rate very highly and I was a little surprised to see him go out on loan this season as I believe he is on the verge of hitting the first team.
