Body Search At Mcdiarmid.

Recommended Posts

Walked up to McDiarmid 35 mins before kick off to be told I was to be body searched before getting in,alcohol and knives were what they were looking for.Agreed to the search but let the guy know I wasn't happy....policeman standing near told me to "get over here "and had a word in my ear. I know this is becoming the norm at some matches these days but this has to be the only form of entertainment that treats their customers like sh*^e............on a lighter note, good performance and result tonight.

Expect after Paris will become more widespread where crowds gather for entertainment.

There are ways of doing things though.. A simple explanation and a bit of common decency when carrying it out wouldn't go a miss. I'm of the opinion that it's not so much the many rules of modern football stewarding / policing that p*ss people off but the manner in which they are enforced. Football could learn a thing or two from the way airport security go about their business.

You must have been looking dodgy Janny  I didn't see anyone getting searched but got there about 15 mins before kick off so it might have got a bit messy if they wanted to search everyone then. I really don't like the way that football fans are treated differently to fans of other sports and this is a cornerstone of it. If I had to submit to a search every time I went to a game of football I can honestly say I'd stop going. A couple of reasons, the first being that I find it offensive to assume that I would be involved in 'badness' based on my attendance there and secondly if people are needing to be searched before going in then its probably unsafe anyway.

If guys are pished or acting up then stop them going into the ground, if the Police and Stewards did this part of their job properly then behaviour in the ground wouldn't be such an issue for them (and things like the Shankly bogs getting trashed on Boxing day would be less likely to happen). Stop the idiots and leave the rest of us to enjoy the game is the way ahead, ban repeat offenders and treat the rest of us with common decency.

Good morning Chomp, to see grown men standing in line legs spread and arms in the air waiting to get into a fitba match is just plain wrong. I would add that after the game when walking round the corner to my mums house there was about 30 young saints fans looking for Dundee fans along the road initially they were escorted along by the police then all of a sudden they all took off running amok around The Tulloch area..so targeting fans at the ground is an easy one for them, the wee needs running causing mayhem is too much bother for them.

Aye your right. I get p*ssed off with all that airport searching, full body scan check your shoes, laptop etc etc  to then get on a plane that gives out glass wine bottles:)

I'm talking about the manner in which the entry policies are enforced. Asking your average football steward to carry out these checks in a fair, reasonable and consistent manner is a recipe for disaster.

I'm with you on this point.  If I'm going to be frisked then I want someone who has been checked, double checked and trained to carry it out.  I would much rather the Police did this but I suppose they can't be arsed if stewards are there.  In particular, having Attilio Jnr being frisked by a complete stranger (who isn't a copper) doesn't sit right with me.  Having said that, there used to be a lovely lass who was a steward in the main stand who could frisk me on the way in and on the way out.

Another thing - is it just the away fans who are getting searched or are the home fans subjected to this to?

I can say with certainty that there have been games I've been to where its just the away fans, when I went into work and talked with opposition fans they didn't get the same treatment. I know that people are more likely to 'act up' at away games and that sometimes the Police have info that something might be planned but a bit of common sense can go a long way. At its most basic level 'profiling' will give a pretty good idea who the more likely targets are, a friend of mine in his 70's with his grandson were both searched (along with the rest of us) going into a Celtic game, we also had the sniffer dog give us the once over. Apart from it being a waste of time, its intimidating for a lot of people, especially when its only the away fans that are being treated like this.

That's how I've been seeing it Chomp.  The next question is then - who instigates the need for the these searches?  Is it the club themselves (the wee haters, in this case) or Scottish Police?  If it was the club, I would sure as hell be thinking about returning the compliment the next time they visit Dens.  Especially as we've seen what bother the MacDiarmid Massive can cause.
