It's a structural fault in the steel, so now that's the SNP's failing   :lol2:

Correct allocation of transport infrastructure budget and preventative engineering measures would have seen this dealt with before it became an issue rather than spending elsewhere and hoping for nothing to happen to the bridge.

Try and justify this one any way you want. This is a failing of epic proportion.

So your saying the SNP knew there was an structural issue with the bridge and instead of funding the fix they left it? I would say bollox to that myself.

Maybe they have they just been made aware of the structural issues and are taking the preventative measures you talk about?

Firstly - A 20mm crack in a truss that the structural engineers state could not be predicted.................It was already known that they were over stressed and a repair option involving strengthening existing welds and adding stiffeners to the tower steelwork has been developed and this option has been designed and an independent check carried out, work already commenced start of this year.

Secondly- The cost of repairs for the truss linkages is estimated at £410,000 as laid out in the Capital Plan - 10 Year Post-2015, full replacement if the repairs don't work is £15,000,000 which Transport Scotland has said it will find should it be necessary.

Thirdly - Fourth Estuary Transport Authority ran a surplus in funding 2014/15.

Could you point out to me where this  "spending elsewhere" you state was please?

The problem can't simply occur without any previous signs of unusual loads. The signs were not taken seriously enough or solutions implemented quickly enough as you state in your first point.

The additional points are moot as the first clearly points to a failing of the administration in charge.

Stress induced loading has been a growing issue for over the past ten years if not more. As it ages the problems grow, SNP gave go ahead for a new crossing as the existing bridge is coming to the end of it's working lifetime. The inspection programme they have in place found the problem. Have to be careful with steel replacement on a loaded structure especially a moving structure like this is. Have watched oil rigs buckle as twats trying to speed jobs up remove to much at one go.

Inspections working or they wouldn't have found it, they already started on repairs to other sections. The first point I made clearly points to steel doing what it does over time, nothing more. Now where is this "spending elsewhere" you allude to?

                                                  2012/13                  2013/14                      2014/15

Forth and Tay Bridge                    £18M                     £11.2M                       £11.8M

That's a massive difference over 3 years because they are wanking themselves daft over subsidising ferry travel for the islands and putting average speed cameras on the A9.
