Could A Different Management Style/ Manager Get More Out Of Our Squad

Recommended Posts

As it says on the tin. I think on the whole we have a pretty decent squad (including some of the young lads on loan). I just feel they are not playing to their full potential, due to the Managements tactics, stubborness to change the way we play etc. I am not calling for Hartley's head, just wondering if others think the players available, are being used in the best way.

The squad 'should' be good enough to avoid relegation but they are not always fit and when not our lack of depth is a real concern. Today's mid three will get overpowered by 90% of the teams in the SPL. I feel 10th place will be a success this season. PH signed all of these guys but doesn't seem to want to admit he can't play them all together

There is more going on than bad formation, however.

I KEEP harping on about this, but we are screwing up the very basics of the game.

Can't take throw ins.

Can't take corners.

Can't defend against corners.

Can't defend against crosses.

Bain seems to have forgotten how to throw a ball to the nearest unmarked man rather than just punt up field.

Hemmings is quickly becoming a joke with his badly timed runs / bad positioning when moving forward.

That said... PH's thought processes are beyond me right now.

It's a question I pondered second half today, as we huffed and puffed to break down a side who'd settled for a two goal win, with maybe another to come from a counter attack.

My conclusion was probably yes.

I've backed Hartley from the start and don't think we should be moving him on. However when Martin Canning was put in charge at Hamilton, I gleefully predicted their downfall. The man comes across as a less intelligent John Hughes and inspires no confidence in his interviews that he's got the vaguest idea what's going on.

However he's shaped a side on a smaller budget that's doing at least as well as we are this season (after he steadied the ship last season after massive early struggles). They have no stars, but they work hard. They don't jump up and down wearing elastic bands, but they're very organised and hard to break down. Add to that, they have balance, a bit of dig and a good attitude and you have to wonder why we can't see similar from a technically better group of players.

Do I want Hamilton's squad? No.

Do I want Canning as manager? NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.

Do I hate Hamilton with a passion? Sure do!

Is Dougie Imrie the most annoying little piece of aggressive shyte in the league? Sure is, but I tell you, we'd be far better off with his dig than what two of our midfielders offered today, and he scores goals.

I only use Hamilton and Canning as an example of getting a fair bit out of a decent to average squad, when we seem to be struggling to get much from a decent to good squad.

Stubborn and arrogant. Some of his post match comments make me shake my head. Really wonder what he sees during games with some of his subs and tactics. It looks like he's trying to put two fingers up to the fans at times but I hope that isn't the case.

Decent squad but has he improved it on last year? I don't think so.
